Gunther has become an unstoppable force ever since he arrived in World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE). Whether it be the former NXT:UK, NXT or the main roster, wherever he goes, carnage follows. Originally named as Walter Hahn, his early pro wrestling career consisted of various indie promotions across Europe, especially Westside Xtreme Wreslting (wXw) in Germany. He also competed in England, Ireland and Japan under the name “Big Daddy” Walter.

Gunther’s journey in World Wrestling Entertainment started with the former NXT: UK. Gunther’s Weight Loss Journey and Transformation to The Ring General

Gunther “The Ring General” has undergone a change in appearance during his early few years with WWE. This is because he lost 65 pounds in weight before reaching his present stage. “The Ring General” discussed all this with Chris Van Vliet as per Wrestletalk. He revealed that the first stage to his weight loss journey started during Covid-19, courtesy of a bodybuilder friend. He revealed that that friend helped Ludwig Kaiser and the former Giovanni Vinci stay in shape through a diet. As for Gunther himself, he revealed (via Wrestletalk),

“Usually, I was always on top of things in my adult life, but the diet is always something I kind of like neglected because I was good the way I was, but when I signed for the main roster and I knew, okay, moving over now I know I’m gonna be on national TV I thought okay, let’s bring the best version of yourself you can.”

However, he has also expressed a likeness for his Walter character, but felt it was time to make a progress for himself. He stated (via Wrestletalk)-

“You’re going to be in front of millions of people every week. I think that step is necessary now. I’m glad I did it. I feel like the independent wrestler Walter that was a little bit bigger and looked like a butcher from the next-door shop, that was cool.I think that was fine for then and I feel like for the wrestling enthusiasts on the independent market, like when you think back like Stan Hansen or Terry Gordy, like the bigger guys. I think it has its place in wrestling a little bit, but I felt like it was time to make a step and progress.”

This eventually led to the birth of Gunther “The Ring General”, who eventually became  the longest reigning Intercontinental Champion of WWE with 666 days reigning period.

What was Gunther’s Heaviest Weight?

Gunther’s heaviest weight was estimated to be more than 330+ lbs as per Ryan Satin of Wrestler Satin of Wrestler Statement as per The Sportster. This was during his NXT: UK and NXT days. He has since then first reduced his weight to 297 lbs and then finally to 250 lbs presently as per his official WWE site.

“The Ring General” can be expected to put on even more impressive more now that he has reduced his weight. Meanwhile, he will be clashing against Jey Uso in a rematch for the World Heavyweight Championship at WWE WrestleMania 41 Night 1 on April 19, 2025.
