Victor Wembanyama’s 42-point night on NBA Christmas debut wasn’t enough as San Antonio Spurs suffer a 117-114 loss to New York Knicks on Wednesday. Mikel Bridges was the star for the home team, putting up 41 points, 1 rebound and four assists as Knicks extended their winning run to 5 games.
Spurs were leading by 5 points with 8 minutes to play and looked on course for a win, courtesy of Wembanyama scoring masterclass. The 21-year-old was just three points away from breaking Wilt Chamberlain’s record of most points on NBA Christmas debut. However, Knicks defense made sure the record stayed unbeaten as the young center failed to add more points in final minutes of the game.
