Winner faces Draper or Kopriva in Round-4.
No. 9 seed Holger Rune takes on World No. 83 Corentin Moutet in the 2025 Italian Open Round of 32 in Rome, on Sunday. Rune won the Barcelona Open Banc Sabadell in April, before retiring from the Mutua Madrid Open two weeks ago. Moutet has yet to win a tour-level main draw match since the Miami Open in March. Who is going to progress to the Round of 16?
Providing a definitive response to his critics, Holger Rune capped off an iconic Barcelona Open run by defeating the prodigious maestro Carlos Alcaraz in the final. Dropping just one set en route to the championship, the Dane proved why he deserves to be a constant name in the Top-10. He currently has a 6-3 record on clay this year, with one tournament win. Rune beat Francisco Comesana of Argentina 3-6 6-3 6-4 in Round-2.
Corentin Moutet has been a tricky southpaw to face on clay since time immemorial. The Frenchman recently defeated Gabriel Diallo and David Goffin in the Monte Carlo Masters qualifiers, before bowing out in the main draw. Despite struggling with consistency, Moutet remains a threat to any big player. He reached the Round of 32 at the 2025 Australian Open, before a season-best Round of 16 showing in Argentina.

Holger Rune and Corentin Moutet share an even 1-1 head to head record on the ATP main draw circuit. If qualifiers are to be counted, Moutet has the edge in this rivalry.
Two out of three matches between Rune and Moutet have been played in 2022 – at the Australian city of Adelaide. The 26-year-old won both these matches in straight sets over his 22-year-old counterpart. In their most recent encounter at Indian Wells in 2025, it was Rune who dominated his French opponent to progress.

Second match after 11 on Pietrangeli . Forza tomorrow 🗣️🦾

Rune overcame an emotional ride in Round-2, after complaining to the chair umpire about improper court conditions. He was down 0-2 in the deciding set, but found his best level when it mattered most. The Danish star has the groundstrokes needed to get past someone like Moutet. Although the 5’11” pocket rocket has troubled him in the past, this is a different Rune we are seeing today.
Prediction: Holger Rune in straight sets.
Holger Rune Win: -625
Corentin Moutet Win: +400
