Ahead of their Europa League clash, Fenerbahce manager Jose Mourinho and Alex Saint-Maximin had a rough exchange of words. It was announced that the winger failed to make it to the squad list that travelled to Glasgow for their second leg against Rangers.
The Frenchman then took a philosophical route to call out Mourinho and hinted that the truth will emerge in due course.
“It will take more than this to defeat me. When a lie takes the elevator, the truth takes the stairs. It takes longer but it always arrives in the end. If God is with us, who can be against us? Romans 8:31”, Saint-Maxime captioned the post.
Saint-Maximin, who turned 28 on March 12, got a brutal response from the Mourinho in his typical manner. Talking about the work ethic of a football player and hinting Saint-Maximin was doing a poetic sequence, the 62-year-old said:
“I didn’t know Saint-Maximin was talented in poetry.”
“I’m not bad in that regard either. When a football player works well, works hard, trains every day, he is fit and can climb the stairs. He doesn’t need an elevator. However, if a player doesn’t train well, arrives late, is overweight, or is not ready to play, he needs an elevator to go up. Because he gets tired quickly on the stairs.”
✍️ Al-Ahli’s loaned player, Allan Saint-Maximin, posted: “When a lie goes up the elevator, the truth goes up the stairs. The truth takes longer but comes in the end.”

The criticism from his manager prompted Saint-Maximin to respond with another post, sharing a picture of his weight over the years along with the caption, “Lies produce flowers, not fruit.”
It has been no secret that Mourinho is bold to point fingers at his squad when something doesn’t fit right. However, the winger who’s on loan from Saudi club Al-Ahli has been left out of the squad for several match days now.
Fenerbahce Gets Knocked Out of the Europa League Round of 16
Fenerbahce, trailing by two goals heading into Scotland, fought back to level the tie 2-2 on aggregate by full-time. However, Mourinho’s side was eliminated from the Europa League after a 3-2 loss in the penalty shootout at Ibrox Stadium.
It’ll be an awkward reunion back in Türkiye, as Mourinho and his squad return from defeat in what was a hard-fought game. Saint-Maximin has appeared in 16 league games for Fenerbahce this season as his future at the club moves in a blur.
