“He’s Convinced He Knows How To Do All of It” – Colin Cowherd Tears Into Jerry Jones

Devavrat Kulkarni

Dallas has not been to the NFC Conference Championship game since 1995

The Dallas Cowboys have been one of the perennial postseason contenders of the NFL for many years. America’s team is not only one of the most storied franchises in the league, but also one of the most followed worldwide.

Having said that, the Cowboys have not had any success in terms of winning another Championship for nearly three decades. And although owner Jerry Jones purchased the team way back in 1989 and won three Super Bowls, his involvement in much of the footballing aspects has limited the progress of the franchise, or so feels sports media personality Colin Cowherd.

Colin Cowherd’s Criticism of Jerry Jones Control Over All Aspects of the Team

Speaking on his show, Cowherd, the host of ‘The Herd,’ had some harsh words against Cowboys’ owner Jerry Jones. As per Cowherd, Jones is the primary reason why Dallas has been unable to have the type of success it once had.

The Cowboys’ owner makes himself a part of every aspect of the team’s footballing activities, but that is precisely what is holding the team back. Cowherd expressed that Dallas has not had an exceptional draft for many years running, nor have they been particularly active in free agency for the past couple of years.

“The Cowboys don’t draft well, the Cowboys overpay for good players, and they’re non-existent last couple of years in free agency. The Bears, Giants, Panthers, Cardinals, Falcons, Saints, Bucs, have all been to a Conference Championship game, and the Cowboys haven’t, since 1995. And Jerry will never give up control. You convince yourself you’re great at everything. Coaching, free agency, drafting, developing, the cap. He’s convinced he knows how to do all of it.”

Moreover, Dallas ends up overpaying most of its star players, and that is also due to the owner’s decision not to get deals done with his players on time.

Take, for example, the pending contract extension for Micah Parsons. It is now two offseasons running that Jones has not gotten a deal done with arguably the best pass rusher in the game today. As more and more players get paid, the market increases, and Jones will end up paying much more than what he would have had he signed Parsons to an extension earlier.

Jones has found himself criticized plenty of times for his opinions and thoughts on how to run the Cowboys’ franchise. At this stage, it is hard to imagine any type of significant changes taking place in Dallas while the ownership remains under Jones’ control. So does that mean Dallas can only be successful again after the Jerry Jones era? Only time will tell.

I am a content writer for the NFL team, and joined The Playoffs after working with Sportskeeda and NFL Analysis as an NFL writer. After starting my professional career as a French-to-English translator, working as a content writer is a new adventure for me. I started out in the sports media field for two main reasons: my love for sports in general, especially the NFL, NBA, and Tennis, as well as my passion for writing. The best part of this job is that I get to write a variety of pieces with the freedom to explore content from various angles. It also enables me to stay up to date with the sporting world, which otherwise can be difficult to do in the day-to-day grind. In a world full of chaos, sports unite and entertain like nothing else!
