German Coach Signs Until 2027 After Leading Barça to Domestic Clean Sweep in First Season.
FC Barcelona have officially announced a two-year contract extension with their head coach Hansi Flick. Thus, tying the German to the club until June 30, 2027. The coach has had a historic debut season. He has ensured a domestic treble in his first season at the club.
This prompted Barcelona to extend his contract as soon as possible. Flick signed the new contract on Wednesday, May 21, at the club offices in the presence of president Joan Laporta, vice president Rafa Yuste, and sporting director Deco.
He took charge in May 2024 following club legend Xavi Hernandez’s departure from the head coach position. And he quickly turned the tide of a struggling Barcelona side. Under his leadership, the club lifted the Spanish Supercup in January, the Copa del Rey in April, and their 28th La Liga title earlier this month.

The Catalan giants also recorded four wins over arch-rivals Real Madrid this season. This included two finals – Spanish Supercup and Copa del Rey – and two league games. They scored 16 goals across those four clashes. Barca’s official statement lauded Flick’s impact, saying, “Hansi Flick is creating history at FC Barcelona and that, we are sure, will continue in the coming seasons.”
Flick has a 73% win rate (43 wins in 54 games). This is the second-best by a debut manager in Barcelona’s history, behind Luis Enrique’s 83%. The German’s tactical approach and man-management skills have been instrumental in revitalizing a youthful squad.
He has successfully guided them through high-pressure moments and multiple comeback wins – nine in total across the season. Even with a semifinal exit in the UEFA Champions League, Flick has turned Barcelona into a formidable force domestically and in Europe again.
He turned Barca into one of the UCL favourites in his first season. His unbeaten record in finals now stands at 7-0, including past success with Bayern Munich. In April, Flick spoke about his vision for the club, saging “I enjoy Barcelona, the city, the people, we are happy to live here… We are just starting this project.”
When Flick joined the club, he was initially offered a longer deal. However, Flick preferred short-term planning, so his earlier contract with the club was till 2026. Flick said, “My plan is to do one year, then we speak and see where we are, and go like that. Step by step. Paso a paso.”

This pragmatic mindset has resonated with club executives and fans alike. That’s why the new contract follows the similar short-deal pattern as well with only a two-year extension. Flick’s understanding of Barca’s financial landscape and his ability to adapt has also helped him form strong internal relationships.
Added to that, his focus has been more on home-grown talents and the players who were there with the club during the struggling time. That has earned him respect, a better bond with his players, fans, and management alike. As Barcelona prepare for the next season, Hansi Flick’s leadership offers an ideal formula for a change at the Camp Nou.
