Giannis Antetokounmpo reaches a special milestone during Bucks’ blowout win over Mavericks

Milwaukee Bucks superstar Giannis Antetokounmpo reached a special milestone in team’s blowout 137-107 win over the Dallas Mavericks on Wednesday, March 5. The nine-time All-Star in his 840th game, reached 20,000 career points. At 30 years and 89 days old, Giannis became the sixth-youngest player in NBA history to achieve this feat.

The only younger players than him to cross the 20,000-point mark were LeBron James, Kevin Durant, Kobe Bryant, Wilt Chamberlain and Michael Jordan. The 30-year-old finished the night with 32 points, 15 rebounds and four assists and now has 20,010 career points.

Not only this, but he is also the 52nd player in the history of the league to reach the mark and first to score all 20,000 points with the Bucks. In addition, he also had the fewest minutes played in a 30-point 15 rebound game since 1967 with 24 minutes and 50 seconds. He surpassed Johnny Green’s record of 25 minutes.

After the game, Giannis’ teammate Damian Lillard welcomed him to the 20,000 career-point club. He took to his social media to share a collage of Giannis and wrote, “Welcome to the club brother“.

“The greats never get bored”- Giannis Antetokounmpo after reaching 20,000 career points

After the game, Giannis reflected back on his entire journey and shared the learnings he has gotten from league greats. He said, “When I came to the NBA, I looked around me and I said the only way I can make it in this league is by working hard. And I have to show up every single day. I had conversations with, uh, great players that played the game,. They’re all that great, and they told me that the best players, the greats never get bored.“

He added that the factor that separates him from the others is his heart, spirit and work ethic. Giannis added, “I realize what separates me from the other players around me and people, is my heart and spirit, my work ethic, I have discipline. I have to repeat it.”

Notably, the Greek Freak is averaging 30.8 points, 12.1 rebounds and 5.9 assists per game this season. He will now take on the court during Bucks’ next clash against the Magic on Saturday, March 8.
