Celtics duo Derrick White and Payton Pritchard had a historical night.
Boston Celtics’ Derrick White and Payton Pritchard scripted NBA history as they took down the Portland Trail Blazers 128-118 on Wednesday, March 5. White and Pritchard came up with combined 19 three-pointers to help the reigning NBA champions record their second straight win. They now hold the record for pulling off the most threes in a game by a pair of teammates in the history of the league.
White finished the night with 41 points, three rebounds, two assists and nine three-pointers. On the other hand, Pritchard had 43 points, 10 rebounds, five assists and ten three-pointers. The Celtics were without the likes of a few stars including Jayson Tatum (right shoulder impingement), Kristaps Porzingis (illness), and Jrue Holiday (right hand mallet finger).
However, the White-Pritchard duo didn’t let their side feel any absence and stepped up to guide the second-seeded Eastern Conference side to their 44th win of the season. This is not it, but with their remarkable performance, the duo created a franchise record as well.
They are now the first pair of teammates in the history of the franchise to score 40+ points each in a game. Moreover, it was only the 27th time in the history of the league where teammates scored 40 points in the same game.
On the other hand, the Trail Blazers, who were without Jerami Grant and Deandre Ayton, had Anfernee Simons leading the charts. Simons finished the night with 30 points, one rebound and six assists. Shaedon Sharpe chipped in 25 points and six rebounds while Jabari Walker added 22 points and six rebounds.

Following the game, White reflected on sharing a record-setting night with teammate Payton Pritchard. He hailed Pritchard for his hard work and said, “I’m super happy for him … Someone that works so hard and just plays the right way every time out there, and so, it’s great to have that night tonight along with him.”
White, who has been averaging 16.7 points and 4.3 rebounds per game this season, went on to say that while it was fun, there is a bigger picture (referring to the championship). He added, “Tonight was fun, but like, we know what the bigger picture is, and we know what we’re working for and what we’re working towards.”
He further added that it is never about his individual performance but always about the team. “And so, I mean, it’s not about me, and it never will be about me. And so whatever the team needs, whatever it is that night, I gotta do it and just help us win games.”
The Celtics will now be up against the 76ers on Thursday, March 6 at home.
