Gael Monfils vs. Hugo Dellien Preview, Prediction and Betting Odds for the French Open 2025 Round 1

Rudra Dubey

Home favorite Monfils takes on Challenger-hardened Dellien in opening-round clash.

Gael Monfils and Hugo Dellien are set to face off in the opening round of the 2025 French Open, marking their first-ever meeting on tour. Monfils, who turned pro in 2004, picked up his 13th career singles title earlier this season in Auckland. A 2008 semifinalist at Roland Garros, the French veteran remains a crowd favorite, especially on the clay of Paris.

Dellien, a pro since 2009, is still in search of his first ATP singles title. Though his best French Open results are second-round appearances in 2019 and 2022, the Bolivian brings plenty of match experience, with 29 singles and 18 doubles titles at the Challenger and ITF levels.

As they meet for the first time, it’s a classic clash between elite-level experience and challenger circuit grit. Will Dellien spring a surprise, or will Monfils deliver another win on home soil?

Gael Monfils vs. Hugo Dellien Preview

Monfils kicked off the season in style, winning the Auckland title with a straight-sets win over Zizou Bergs. Since then, however, injuries and early exits have disrupted his rhythm. Though he reached the Round of 16 in both Melbourne and Miami, he withdrew from Melbourne (back), Munich (foot), Madrid (illness), and Rome (precaution).

Still, the world No. 42 has posted a 16-7 record, with 219 aces, a 78% first-serve win rate, and a 39% break point conversion from 147 chances. These strong stats could’ve been even better with a healthier run.

Dellien, meanwhile, has thrived on the Challenger circuit but continues to struggle on the ATP main stage. His highlights include a semifinal in Piracicaba, Merida and Skopje and a finals run in Rosario, where he lost a tight three-setter to Camilo Ugo Carabelli. On the ATP Tour, though, his record stands at just 2-3 this year, with 11 aces, a 65% first-serve win rate, and a 35% conversion from 34 break point chances.

Gael Monfils vs. Hugo Dellien Prediction

While Dellien has had success on the Challenger circuit, Monfils’ higher-level experience, strong serving stats, and home-court advantage give him the edge. But only if the Frenchman’s fitness holds.

My journey into sports media began far from the field, rooted in the arts and sciences. Funny enough, I didn’t grow up a sports fan; I used to see it all as just noise. But a fateful writing job introduced me to the world of sports, and what began as a gig quickly became a passion. I understood those voices aren’t noise; they’re emotions of true sports fans, and now I am one of them, writing with the same energy I once questioned.
