Former Liberty Forward Sue Wicks Feels Caitlin Clark is the Best Thing Happened to WNBA

Former New York Liberty Sue Wicks feels that Indiana Fever superstar Caitlin Clark is the best thing that has ever happened to the WNBA. According to her, the WNBA must do anything and everything to protect her. Wicks, who was a part of the New York Liberty for five years from the inaugural season of the league, appeared on the Jockular podcast, where she opened up on various aspects, including Clark’s dominance.

Sue Wicks was asked about her opinion on the ‘Caitlin Clark effect’, to which she said that the Iowa icon is one of the best things to have happened in the league. “It is the most important thing that happened. A few things have happened to the WNBA. Some of them on the down low,” Wicks said.

“I don’t think anything more important has happened to the WNBA than Caitlyn Clark.. Number one, I’m a fan in the sense that I can’t get my eyes off of her. The first time I saw her at Iowa, I was like, ‘What‘? Like, I was leaning into the television like, ‘What am I watching?‘”

Heaping praise on Clark and her charisma, Wicks added, “I’d never seen anything like her. She kind of took my breath away really. I was just like this kid’s a sensation and just magical out there. The way she moves and handles herself and what she does, I’ve never seen anyone do that. And then coming into the league, how the excitement around her. There’s never been a player that’s been so broad that every arena that they go to, they’re selling out the arena because people across the country want to see this player. That type of charisma.”

Clark has established herself as one of the most impactful players in the league. Known for breaking numerous NCAA scoring records, the 23-year-old has had a transformative effect on women’s basketball. Even during her rookie season in the WNBA, Clark demonstrated high-level skills, earned All-Star honors as well as was named the Rookie of the Year 2024. Despite missing most of her sophomore season, her impact remained undeniable.

Caitlin Clark to be Inducted Into Dowling Catholic Hall of Fame

The Indiana Fever icon will now be inducted into her high school’s athletic hall of fame. She will be honored alongside names such as Bailey Schroder, Jack Koerner, Ben Severino during the school’s homecoming festivities on Friday, September 26. Notably, the two-time WNBA All-Star was the Maroons’ leading scorer in her freshman year. She averaged 15.3 points, 3.3 rebounds, and 4.7 assists during that season.

As a sophomore, her stats inflated to 27.1 points, 6.5 rebounds, and four assists. The figures continued to improve in further seasons, as she finished her senior season with an average of 33.7 points, 8.1 rebounds, and four assists. It was just the beginning for Clark! She is now one of the most popular and celebrated players in women’s basketball.
