The hosts are seeking series sweep on Wednesday at home!

The New York Liberty will welcome the Phoenix Mercury in Game 2 of their best-of-three 2025 WNBA Playoffs series on Wednesday, September 17. The reigning champions head into the series on the back of a 76-69 win over the Mercury. While they would aim to sweep the series, the Mercury would try their best to force a decider and take the action back home for the final game.

In the first game of the series, Natasha Cloud dropped a game-leading performance with 23 points, six rebounds, and five assists. Breanna Stewart added 18 points, six rebounds, and four assists, while Sabrina Ionescu chipped in 16 points, six rebounds, and seven assists to Liberty’s success. On the other hand, Kahleah Copper dropped 15 points, two rebounds, and one assist for the Mercury. Alyssa Thomas poured in 14 points, nine rebounds, and eight assists while DeWanna Bonner came up with 12 points and five rebounds.

Overall, they made 25 of 77 (33%) from the field and shot 23% (6 of 26) from three-point range. New York, on the other hand, made 30 of 72 (41.6%)  from the field, and 10 of 33 (30%) from the three-point range.

While the reigning champions managed to take their upper-seeded rivals down, their success came at the cost of Stewart’s injury. New York’s regular season scoring leader suffered a knee injury after falling to the ground while making a layup with 3:01 to play in overtime. While Stewart stayed in the game and tried to play through the injury, she ended up missing the free throw. Stewart ended up leaving the game about a minute later and didn’t return.

The injury raised concerns among fans and the New York team who were hoping to repeat their championship run in WNBA 2025. Sandy Brondello’s team shared an update about her injury, and listed her on the injury report ahead of Game 2. So, what does the injury report say about Stewart’s status? Let’s find out.
