Here's what Fernando Alonso has to say about Aston Martin's Technical Manager
Fernando Alonso is pointless after the first leg of Formula 1 2025 season. The Spaniard was furious after his DNF in Monaco. Alonso was in shambles on his radio after the race. A frustrated Alonso called himself the unluckiest driver of Formula 1. Indeed the 2025 season is gearing up to one of the worsts starts for the iconic former champion.
Fernando Alonso’s career is in question for a long time. He had a spectacular performance in 2023 with Aston Martin. However, El Padre has been facing difficulties since then. The arrival of Adrian Newey is a positive note for the team. But, the rumors are hinting towards his retirement. Aston Martin was also the last dance for world champion Sebastian Vettel. Ironically, Alonso is heading towards a similar phase.

Even after his unsuccessful race in Monaco, the Spaniard has found something to look forward to. Adrian Newey was with the team during the 2025 Monaco Grand Prix taking a break from his 2026 design.
Alonso is a two-time world champion and Newey is one of the most successful F1 designers. The two have never crossed paths in Formula 1 until 2025. Fernando Alonso has also gone up against Newey’s cars previously.
The oldest driver of Formula 1 was more than impressed to work with Newey in Monaco. He was all praise for Adrian Newey’s observations and working. For Alonso it was a key factor missing in the Aston Martin team that could’ve been better in the past. Newey’s arrival is spearing a radical change in Aston Martin and Alonso is experiencing it firsthand as their driver.

🗣️ “Adrian [Newey] has quite a few tricks in his notebook… and he didn't give them to Red Bull on his way out the door! All I'll say is that wasn't the last upgrade for the year.” pic.twitter.com/SM7dzqvo2s
“But also his presence in the meeting room is always special – not intimidating, but I think the level of the team was higher thanks to his presence because everyone was more focused, more into the details of the car. People that talking in the meeting, they know that they cannot say anything too far from the truth because he will spot it, so I think that was great to witness and I hope next year, with more races that he will come, we’ll keep learning from him and getting better as a team.”
Unfortunately for Fernando Alonso, he will have to wait until 2026 to experience Adrian Newey’s special design. The legendary aerodynamics expert is dedicated towards designing the 2026 car for Aston Martin. If Alonso ends up participating in the upcoming seasons, he might have a fair chance at winning his last few Formula 1 races.
nhl I work as a Writer at The Playoffs specialising in NHL, Formula 1 and Motorsports. I got into online journalism a couple of years ago. I used to be an intern for a website managing their Formula 1 content and then I served an entire year as a contractual writer.
Read moreFor me, online journalism was not something I expected. I am a Mechanical Engineer aiming to join Formula 1. At the same time, I am a poet, writer and my university’s Literary Club Lead. One day the dots connected together and I realised I could use my writing skills to convey my passion for Motorsports.
The biggest aspects I love about my role are- Scuderia Ferrari and Sebastian Vettel. When I am not fawning over them I like to convey my opinions to the public, in a manner which helps them gain a new point of view. I love helping people explore new ideas about Motorsports and obviously get recognised as a writer all over the world.
Message to Readers: I promise you one day you’ll see me managing operations on track with a Formula 1 team ; )
