The Formula 1 Chinese GP Qualifying results are a stark example of the competitive advantage held by McLarens this year. The results divide the grid into many segments. The front row has become a chaotic tussle between four different teams. Following suit are Racing Bulls and Williams who lock out the top-10 from the other teams. The rest of the grid has to fight its way out of the Q2 for an occasional chance at Q3. Aston Martin, Alpine, Sauber and Haas are being relentlessly bullied by the other teams out front.

The Formula 1 rookies have their own troubles to mend. Some of the rookies are constantly pushing forth to challenge the veterans, while the other rookies are unable to prove their talents through results. The surprises in Q1 and Q2 gave way to the stunning top-10 grid in the final qualifying session for the Chinese GP.

Oscar Piastri redeemed himself after his terrible mistake cost him a potential podium in his home race. Piastri went on to claim his first career pole position at the Chinese GP after he set a magnificent lap defeating his teammate. Piastri pulled off two purple sectors in the final run of Q3 to set a time of 1:30.641s and claim provisional pole. George Russell completed a superb final lap to drop Land Norris from the front row and secure second place in Qualifying.

Norris was the faster McLaren initially. He ended up losing his touch in the final run of the qualifying session. Norris claimed in the post-race interview that he was indeed having some difficulties with the car. Max Verstappen has to stay satisfied with the second row. He was unable to challenge for pole and remained visibly less dominant. In addition to his troubles, Red Bull finds their car dead last one again with Liam Lawson eliminated in Q2.

Lewis Hamilton and Charles Leclerc secured 5th and 6th respectively. Their qualifying pace was not at all reminiscent of the speed Ferrari had during the sprint race. The biggest move came from Isack Hajdar. He initially topped the charts in Q2 and secured himself the seventh place for tomorrow’s start. Antonelli followed him in eighth place after facing some troubles in qualifying earlier. Tsunoda secured ninth whereas Alex Albon secured 10th becoming the breakout driver for Williams once again.

Trouble for the Backmarkers and Midfield Teams

Aston Martin found themselves out in Q2 by a strong margin. The Alpines suffered immensely as their car was unable to clear the first session of qualifying. Ocon and Hulkenberg finished in Q2 to cover up for their rookie teammates who were out in Q1 itself. Carlos Sainz was the last driver out of Q2. He was unable to find balance with his Williams once again. Sainz has found himelf in a lot of trouble throughout the weekend.
