Everton Agree €35M Deal for Villarreal Striker Thierno Barry

Thierno Barry has all the abilities to become a key figure in Everton’s attack under David Moyes' guidance.

Everton have agreed a €35 million deal with Villarreal to sign highly rated France Under-21 striker Thierno Barry. The Merseyside club have strengthened their attack ahead of the new season with Barry’s transfer. Barry’s impressive performances helped Villarreal secure Champions League qualification last season.

The 22-year-old scored 11 goals and provided four assists in 38 appearances last season. The striker was keen on a move to the Premier League and is set to sign a four-year contract with the Toffees. The deal, which includes future add-ons, is just below Barry’s €40 million release clause, with personal terms not expected to be an issue.

Barry will join as a replacement for striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin. The English striker left the club upon the expiry of his contract, while Armando Broja has returned to Chelsea after his loan ended.

What Everton Could Expect From Thierno Barry?

Standing at 6’5″, Thierno Barry offers the aerial presence manager David Moyes demands up front. However, he is far from a one-dimensional target man. Barry is known for his ability to make intelligent runs in behind defences, link-play in wide spaces and he attack crosses with authority. His overall abilities make him a complete forward option for Everton.

Born in Lyon, Barry’s journey has taken him from French club Sochaux to the Belgian second division with Beveren. He then made the switch to Swiss club Basel, before making his mark at Villarreal following a £13 million move in 2024. Last season, he was among only 15 players across Europe’s top five leagues to score 10+ goals before turning 23.
