Chelsea Confirm Joao Pedro Signing Ahead of FIFA Club World Cup Quarterfinal Against Palmeiras

Joao Pedro has set his sights firmly on winning trophies with Chelsea after completing his transfer from Brighton.

Chelsea have officially confirmed the signing of Brazilian forward Joao Pedro from Brighton & Hove Albion. The 23-year-old attacker has penned a long-term deal with the Blues until 2033. The move, reportedly worth £60 million ($79 million), adds another attacking outlet to Enzo Maresca’s squad as they prepare for their FIFA Club World Cup quarter-final clash with Palmeiras.

A product of Fluminense, Pedro’s rise has been marked his composure in front of goal. After netting 10 times in 36 appearances for the Rio de Janeiro club, he moved to England. He enjoyed four successful seasons at Watford, scoring 24 goals in 109 matches. His 2023 switch to Brighton saw him continue his upward trajectory as finished as the Seagulls’ joint-top scorer last season with 19 goals across all competitions.

Joao Pedro Targets Silverware

With a new chapter at Stamford Bridge, Pedro has already linked up with his new teammates in Miami. Chelsea are preparing hard for their last-eight clash in Miami before travelling to Philadelphia ahead of the fixture against the Brazilian giants on Friday.

Joao Pedro has set his sights firmly on winning trophies with Chelsea after completing his transfer. Speaking for the firt time as a Chelsea player, Pedro said,

“Everyone knows this is a big club with a great history. They had brilliant players in the past and have brilliant players now. So I am excited to join and you know when you are a Chelsea player you must think one thing — win.”

“I grew up watching the Premier League, and Chelsea were a club that won trophies. So, when you join Chelsea, you can only think one thing: to win trophies. ‘Every competition, you have to think, “I play for Chelsea and that is my ambition”.

Chelsea, who secured a dramatic 4-1 extra-time win over Benfica to reach the quarter-finals, will hope Pedro can make an instant impact as they chase Club World Cup glory. The London side beat Palmeiras in the 2022 Club World Cup final in Abu Dhabi. However, this will mark a fresh test with a new-look Chelsea squad seeking the coveted World Cup trophy under Maresca’s guidance.
