La Liga Giants Eye a Key Reinforcement As Interest Heats Up in One of Europe’s Most Dynamic Full-Backs.
La Liga champions, Barcelona have shifted their attention to fulfill a key position as their pursuit for Nico Williams persists on another side. The Catalan club have started showing interest in Inter Milan star Denzel Dumfries. Barcelona’s transfer activity is beginning to take shape under new manager Hansi Flick.
A lot of their focus has been on completing a deal for Athletic Club winger Nico Williams. Even so, the Catalan giants are also quietly exploring reinforcements in other areas. One such position under consideration is right-back. Hansi Flick is reportedly unconvinced by the current options behind Jules Kounde.
The lack of depth became evident last season. Hector Fort struggled for minutes and he could potentially make an exit this summer. Barcelona are weighing up whether to send the 17-year-old out on loan or sanction a permanent sale with a buy-back clause. That scenario could pave the way for a new addition.

According to the renowned journalist and transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, Barcelona are one of the clubs closely monitoring Denzel Dumfries. The 29-year-old Netherlands international is currently playing at Inter Milan. No formal bid or approach has been made yet from the Catalan side.
Reportedly, his current release clause is between €25m and €30m. However, it’s only active until mid-July. Thus, creating a time-sensitive window for any potential move. The interest is far from baseless. Dumfries was one of Inter’s standout performers last season.

He also played a starring role against Barcelona in the Champions League semi-finals. He scored twice and provided three assists across the two legs. His physicality, stamina, and attacking thrust from deep would suit Flick’s dynamic style. Especially in games that require fast transitions.
Despite the admiration from Barça’s side, the situation is complicated. The club’s current priority is finalising Williams’ transfer. They will also need to offload fringe players to manage financial constraints. Moreover, Inter are not actively pushing to sell Dumfries.
Barcelona are not alone in their admiration. Premier League side Manchester United have also tracked Dumfries since April. They are viewing him as a perfect fit for new manager Ruben Amorim’s high-energy system. However, the Red Devils’ interest hasn’t materialised into a bid either.
Although, the Dutchman’s modest release clause could prompt quick action from any suitor. As things stand, Barcelona’s pursuit is not advanced. However, Dumfries is reportedly only a ‘phone call away’ from a possible exit from Inter Milan. Hence, the next fortnight could be decisive for his transfer.
