Learn All About How Edge Reacted to John Cena’s Heel Turn
John Cena had finally turned heel at Elimination Chamber 2025 by attacking former champion Cody Rhodes. Then, he became the new Undisputed WWE Champion by defeating Cody Rhodes at WrestleMania 41.
John Cena has since then started calling himself the Last Real Champion and has planned to ruin wrestling for everyone. His despicable antics as the heel has drawn the attentions of one of his former major rivals. That is none other than former WWF/WWE star and Hall of Famer Edge. So how did Edge react to his one of his former major rivals becoming a heel in the WWE?

Edge, the “Rated-R Superstar” more recently appeared on “First-Up” podcast, where he talked about John Cena’s heel turn. He revealed (via WrestlingWorldCC on Instagram)-
“When you get a character that has been round that long as a babyface, to turn, it’s like when Hogan turned and joined the NWO. It’s always a good shot in the arm for the business”.
The WWF/WWE Hall of Famer also revealed that he does not watch wrestling because he’s burned out and watching it can be all consuming. He only gets his clips from Instagram and watches them there. However, he is not interested in the full story, the follow throughs and all the little beats here and there as per EWrestlingNews. He would rather spend his free time watching hockey or spending time with his family.
Notably, Edge’s wife is Beth Phoenix, the former WWE star. They also have two daughters.
Edge is presently enjoying his career as a pro wrestler as “Cope” in All Elite Wrestling (AEW). He originally debuted there as Adam Copeland in 2023, but changed his name to “Cope” in 2024. He has also been the TNT Champion in his AEW career so far.
John Cena and Edge has been two of the most bitter rivals of each other during their rivalry career. This began when the “Rated R-Superstar” cahed in his MITB briefcase at New Year’s Revolution in 2006. He became the new champion by defeating John Cena and started their rivalry as per the WWE official site.
Edge and John Cena’s rivalry continued from 2006 to 2010 as per CageMatch. Most of these matches involved the titles changing hands. Some notable moments were when John Cena left Edge left swimming in the Long Island Sound on August 21, 2006 as per the WWE offcial site. Likewise, Edge also visited John Cena’s home and slapped his father across the face. All these antics between the two stars made their rivalry one to watch for the fans.
John Cena and Edge have both become absolute legends throughout their wrestling careers. However, it would be nice to see a babyface Edge return to WWE to confront John Cena, now that Cena has become a heel. However, this is unlikely as John Cena is retiring in December 2025.
