Dustin ‘The Diamond’ Poirier has built his career on being one of the most exciting fighters in UFC history. Known for his crisp boxing, incredible durability, and warrior spirit, Poirier has been part of the UFC for quite some time now and has left his mark on the lightweight division with blood, sweat, and an endless supply of bonus-worthy performances.

Now, as Dustin Poirier approaches what might be his final fight, a familiar challenger has thrown his hat into the ring for one final showdown.

Dustin Poirier Gets Callout From Eddie Alvarez

The former UFC lightweight champion Eddie Alvarez has thrown his hat into the ring with an interesting twist. Alvarez, who is currently testing his hands in the world of bare-knuckle boxing, wants to settle his old score with Poirier. ‘The Diamond’ finished him in the second round of their fight back in July 2018.

Alvarez is fresh off his adventures in BKFC, where he’s gone 1-1 against Chad Mendes and Mike Perry, and now he is looking for some ungloved redemption. Before his upcoming scrap with Jeremy Stephens, Alvarez dropped the challenge in a recent interview, pointing out how he and Poirier have some unfinished business to settle.

“I think Dustin would be the one I’d like to get back. I beat Justin, I don’t think Justin is gonna be an easy fight no matter what night it is. He’s always gonna be difficult. Me and Dustin have sort of got a little bit of a back-and-forth. I got him once, he got me once. It’d be nice to finish that out with no gloves,” said Alvarez via Home of the Fight.

Poirier, who’s coming off a title loss to Islam Makhachev at UFC 302, has made it clear he has only one more fight left in him. At 35, ‘The Diamond’ isn’t chasing another long road to the title. He is looking for one last memorable scrap before hanging up the gloves. Whether he will settle for a rematch with Eddie Alvarez (in BKFC) remains to be seen.
