Douglas Luiz Set for Premier League Return with Nottingham Forest

Douglas Luiz is on the verge of sealing a move back to the Premier League, with Nottingham Forest closing in on a deal to sign the Brazilian midfielder from Juventus. The 27-year-old, who previously starred for Aston Villa, is expected to join Forest on an initial loan deal that includes an obligation to buy for around €30m (£25m).

Former Arsenal sporting director Edu Gaspar has recently been announced as Forest’s new global head of football. Notably, Gaspar is understood to have played a key role in making the deal happen as Forest manger Nuno Espirito Santo continues to reshape his squad.

Juventus To Make £20M Loss on Luiz

Luiz only left Villa last summer in a £50m move to Juventus, as the Midlands club balanced their books to meet profitability and sustainability rules. But his time in Serie A has been underwhelming, with just three league starts since his arrival. Keen to reignite his career, the Brazil international is now relishing a return to England.

Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis has been in direct discussions with Juventus, agreeing a package worth around €30m. As a result, Italian giants Juventus will make £20M Loss on Luiz. Everton had also expressed interest, but Forest’s persistence won out in the end. The midfielder, who is seeking wages of more than £100,000 per week, made 175 Premier League appearances for Villa and was central to their Champions League qualification push before his departure.

Luiz will join a busy summer intake at the City Ground, where Nuno has already added Igor Jesus, Jair Cunha, Dan Ndoye, Omari Hutchinson, James McAtee, and Arnaud Kalimuendo. Sevilla defender José Ángel Carmona is another target under consideration.

Forest face Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park this weekend, a fixture expected to carry added edge following the recent dispute over Europa League qualification. Luiz’s signing is viewed as a major statement of intent by a club determined to push higher up the Premier League table.
