It has been a wild NFL ride for Diontae Johnson. He was picked up by the Baltimore Ravens just a day after he was cut off from the Houston Texans squad. Even though he has been picked by the Ravens, Johnson will not be eligible to play until the season ends.
It has been confusing for us fans to say the least. He signed with the Texans on 23rd December, 2024 but just played two games before he was waived yet again.
Johnson played just one regular season game and one playoff game for the Texans. After just two games Johnson was out of the roster. There are multiple speculations as to why Johnson was waived by the Texans but that was cleared off by DeMeco Ryan (head coach of the Houston Texans) who said “Yeah with Diontae, unfortunately, it didn’t workout and we’re on to the Chiefs.“

Great job to minimize & prevent it from being a distraction. We move. pic.twitter.com/2vNhyEOdNJ
Diontae Johnson had his longest stint with the Pittsburgh Steelers. He was drafted as the 66th overall pick of the 2019 NFL draft. He played 5 seasons for the Steelers before he was traded to the Carolina Panthers on March 12th, 2024. Johnson only played in seven games for the Panthers. Thereafter he was traded to the Baltimore Ravens on October 29th, 2024.
During his first stint with the Ravens, Johnson was suspended for one game due to him refusing to play the Week 13th game against the Philadelphia Eagles. Johnson’s lack of professionalism and detrimental conduct eventually led to him being waived from the Ravens.

Just three days after he was waived by the Ravens, the Houston Texans picked Johnson where he played just two games (a regular season game and a playoff game). After playing just two games, Johnson was waived, yet again, on January 14th, 2025. To everybody’s surprise, the Ravens claimed Johnson, for the second time, on January 15th, 2025.
According to Sean Leahy of Yahoo Sports, Ravens may have picked Johnson since he is an unrestricted free agent. This means that the Ravens may get an extra draft pick in 2026 if he decides to sign with another team, all thanks to the NFL’s compensatory pick formula.
Diontae Johnson had his best season with the Pittsburgh Steelers in 2021. Johnson was selected to the Pro Bowl and registered 1161 receiving yards, and 8 receiving touchdowns. He also had a catch percentage of 63.3 percent in 2021. The five years he spent with the Steelers, Johnson registered a total of 4363 receiving yards, 391 receptions, and 25 receiving touchdowns.
After being traded from the Steelers, Johnson has never been the same. His numbers have taken a huge hit and so has his playing time. We will eventually see if he can revive his career. For now, Johnson is nowhere the same player he was before.

mma I cover the National Football League and things cannot get better than that. I always dreamed to play football or basketball professionally since I’m built like a Running Back. But now that I can’t, since I’m technically in the “Unc” age, I thought why not pick a career in sports industry? So here I am, doing what I love, and hoping that the Commanders win the Super Bowl. I give love to players when it’s due, but can be critical about their performances at the same time. Enough about me, now let my articles do all the talking.
