Did Eagles have one of the best off-seasons ever?

The Super Bowl LIX champs are none other than the Philadelphia Eagles and they beat the Kansas City Chiefs in ways we never dreamt about. The Eagles embarrassed the Chiefs in the Super Bowl and it was a blowout. In fact the loss was so disappointing that it has the future first-ballet Hall of Famer, Travis Kelce, considering retirement. The Chiefs tried their best to shut down Saquon Barkley, in which they succeeded but nothing else went right for them. Mahomes, considered as the best quarterback in the NFL currently, had one of the worst games of his career. He threw two interceptions, including a pick-six, was sacked six times, and fumbled the ball once. It was all in all, a beatdown and the Chiefs had no answer for the Eagles.

Meanwhile, for the Eagles, they surprised everybody across the league. Nobody thought that the Eagles would walk out of Caesars Superdome victorious and stop the Chiefs’ three-peat dreams. The Chiefs were considered a 1.5 point favorite in the Super Bowl and everybody argued about how the Chiefs’ experience in the Super Bowl would help them beat the Eagles again. Only this time, Jalen Hurts, put the team on his back and he never looked back. “All he does is win,” was a quote from coach Nick Sirianni for his QB1’s performance against the Commanders after winning the NFC Championship, and that seems accurate. Only three quarterbacks have won against Mahomes in the playoffs and Hurts is now, officially, one of them.

So this begs the question, how did the Eagles win the Super Bowl after failing to do so, in their first go around. Let’s find out.

Terrific Off-season moves helped the Eagles win the Super Bowl

The Eagles added various pieces in their last off-season to help be the offensive and defensive juggernaut that they are. Here are the moves that they made;

Kellen Moore- He was hired by the Eagles to be their offensive coordinator in 2024 and what a move that was. He helped Barkley unlock his potential as he rushed for 2000 plus yards in the regular season and Moore also made history by breaking the record for most rushing yards by a team in NFL history, including the playoffs with 3866. After his successful stint with the Eagles in 2024, he has now moved on to become the head coach for the New Orleans Saints.

Vic Fangio- Fangio, the architect for the Eagles’ defense, was hired in 2024. He has shown that he has an elite defensive mind as they shut down Mahomes and the Chiefs’ offense, in ways we have never seen before. Sacking Mahomes six times, in the Super Bowl, is in itself an accomplishment!

Saquon Barkley- Barkley arguably had the best season we’ve seen a Running Back have in recent history. After his departure from a losing team like the New York Giants, he showed what he can do if he has the right system to play for. Rushing for over 2000 plus yards, a top-5 MVP candidate, and won the Super Bowl. What can’t he do?

Zack Baun- He joined the Eagles in 2024 off-season and what a turnaround he had in the 2024 season. Baun went from being an average defensive player, to a All-Pro 1st team and a DPOY finalist in his very first year with the Eagles.

Quinyon Mitchell- Mitchell was drafted by the Eagles as the 22nd overall pick, in the 2024 NFL draft. He had an immediate impact, as a rookie, for the Eagles. He finished second in the DROY award voting and has 2 interceptions in the playoffs and was one of only three players to record mutiple interceptions in the postseason.

Cooper DeJean- Rookie Cooper DeJean, was another player who helped the Eagles finish off the Chiefs in the Super Bowl. He will forever be remembered for his pick-six in the Superbowl and he did it one his birthday! What can be a more glorious start to a career than that?

C.J. Gardener-Johnson- After his first Super Bowl appearance with the Eagles in 2022, Johnson was traded away to the Detroit Lions in 2023. However, he came back to the Eagles in 2024 and was on a mission since day one. He had 6 interceptions in the 2024 regular season, tied for his career best 6 which was also achieved while playing for the Eagles in 2022. He also finished 11th in CPOY award and his 6 interceptions was tied for 3rd best in the NFL. It seems Johnson’s level of play just elevates when he plays for the Eagles.

Mekhi Becton: Had it not been for Becton, we don’t know if Saquon Barkley would have had the success that he did. He joined the Eagles in the 2024 off-season and ended up becoming the starting right guard for the Eagles. He was fantastic when it came to holding the line throughout the season and especially in the playoffs. After all the injuries, inconsistency, and dark days playing for the Jets, he finally achieved something that very few have in their NFL careers.
