Repeat of the 2024 final in Round-1 at the German town.
In a repeat of the 2024 final, Diana Shnaider and Donna Vekic will trade blows in the 2025 Bad Homburg Open Round of 32 on Monday. They also faced each other in the Berlin Tennis Open last week, where the Russian stormed to victory. The winner of this match will take on either Ajla Tomljanovic or Linda Noskova in the Round of 16.
Southpaw Diana Shnaider starts as the No. 6 in Bad Homburg this week. The 21-year-old defeated the likes of Kerber, Badosa, Navarro and Vekic herself en route to the title here last year. She is on a subdued 18-15 run in 2025, including no trophies. Despite failing to get past the quarterfinal stage on grass so far, the World No. 12 has showcased some great tennis along the way.
Pari’s Olympics silver medalist Donna Vekic is struggling to find form this season. She holds an 8-15 record, and is searching for her maiden championship run too. A former Top-20 player, Vekic is yet to reach the quarterfinal stage of any tournament in 2025. She made the Round of 16 at the Australian Open, which included a victory over her opponent on Monday. Having lost the final to Shnaider last year, redemption is on the cards for the Croatian.
Diana Shnaider has a 2-1 record in the head-to-head against Donna Vekic. Two of the three previous encounters have come in 2025.
Before last week’s straight sets result at the German capital, both the Shnaider-Vekic tussles have gone to three sets. The Round-1 match-up on Monday will be their third meeting on grass. Shnaider remains undefeated vs the Croat on this surface.

Provided Shnaider can neutralise the Vekic serve consistently enough, she can repeat last week’s result from Berlin. The Croatian managed only 33% points on second serve, and has to find a way to improve on that if she is to cause an upset. In the end, it will come down to who adapts to the surface from Berlin to Bad Homburg quicker.
Prediction: Diana Shnaider in three sets.
