Dalton Knecht-Mark Williams trade rescinded, Lakers rookie will remain with Los Angeles

The Lakers guard Dalton Kencht will remain with Los Angeles as his trade involving Mark Williams has been reportedly rescinded “due to failure to satisfy a condition of the trade.” The Lakers and the Hornets confirmed the trade deal on Friday.

Forward Cam Reddish was also part of the three-players deal, including a 2031 unprotected first-round pick and a 2030 pick. Los Angeles pushed the deal after trading Anthony Davis for Luka Doncic.

According to ESPN’s Shams Charania, Mark Williams’ physical with the Lakers showed multiple issues and the team failed him on the exam. The physical was not failed due to his back, however.

The Lakers announced the trade on Friday and Dalton Kencht was listed as questionable on the Hornets’ injury report against against San Antonio. The rookie guard will now stick with the Lakers.

Dalton Knecht was picked as No. 17 overall by the Lakers in the 2024 NBA Draft. The 6-foot-6 guard is averaging 9.4 points and 3.1 rebounds in 20.7 minutes, while shooting 35.8% on 3-pointers. Knecht recently scored 24 points against the 76ers and had a season-high 37 points against the Jazz on Nov. 19.

Dalton Knecht was selected for the Rising Stars event on All-Star Weekend. He dropped five 20-point games this season. The Lakers guard hit nine 3-pointers against the Utah Jazz in his season-high performance to tie an NBA rookie record.
