Copa del Rey Semi-Final: Barcelona Beat Atletico Madrid To Set Up El Clasico Final

The Catalan giants are now the only team in Europe’s top-five leagues yet to suffer a defeat this year.

La Liga leaders Barcelona sealed their place in the Copa del Rey final after a narrow 1-0 victory over Atletico Madrid in the 2nd leg at the Metropolitano Stadium. The result meant that Barcelona secured a narrow 5-4 win on aggregate and also set up meeting with Real Madrid in the final of the Copa del Rey. The showdown against Real Madrid will mark the eighth Copa del Rey final between the two Spanish giants.

Ferran Torres’ first-half strike proved to be decisive in a tense clash. The Spanish forward showed great composure to slot the ball past Argentine goalkeeper Juan Musso, finishing off a brilliant through ball from Lamine Yamal, who impressed throughout the match. Barcelona dominated large spells of the first half, with Yamal wreaking havoc down the flank and constantly pulling the Atletico defence out of shape.

Raphinha also came close to doubling Barca’s lead on two occasions, but Musso’s saves kept Atletico in contention. Barca displayed composure and control in the second leg, doing just enough to hold off Diego Simeone’s men. Ultimately, Torres’ early goal was enough to seal the win and send Barcelona into a mouth-watering El Clasico final on April 26.

In stark contrast to the dramatic first-leg encounter where Atletico Madrid staged a late comeback to force a thrilling 4-4 draw, the second leg was a more controlled and tense affair, lacking any late fireworks from the home side.

With this victory, Barcelona maintained their unbeaten run in 2025 across all competitions. The Catalan giants are now the only team in Europe’s top-five leagues yet to suffer a defeat this year. They also remain firmly on track for a potential quadruple. Barca currently sit three points clear at the top of La Liga and are will host Borussia Dortmund in the first leg of their Champions League quarter-final on April 9.
