Bayern Munich are once again targeting Christopher Nkunku as they look to reinforce their attack following Kingsley Coman’s impending move to Saudi Pro League side Al Nassr. Nkunku, currently at Chelsea, has been on Bayern’s shortlist for months and could now become a serious option with the Bundesliga champions searching for a versatile forward to play through the middle.
Nkunku joined Chelsea from RB Leipzig in 2023 for £52m (€60m) after finishing as the Bundesliga’s top scorer. However, injuries and inconsistent form have hampered his time in England, with just three league goals last season. Nkunku’s ability to play as a No. 9, No. 10, or on the wing is highly valued by Bayern sporting director Max Eberl.

World Cup Winners Chelsea have made several new signings this summer with Joao Pedro, Jamie Gittens, Jorrel Hato, Liam Delap, Estevao, Dario Essugo, Kendry Paez and Mamadou Sarr all arriving at Stamford Bridge. As a result, the Premier League giants have put Nkunku up for sale this summer and are now willing to accept around €40–50m, a significant drop from the €70m they were demanding in January.
Notably, the French forward has already given the green light to a move to Bayern. He even had a verbal agreement with the club earlier this year, but negotiations stalled over the fee. Bayern’s renewed interest is driven by the need for attacking depth despite signing Luis Diaz from Liverpool earlier in the summer. Coman’s sale would partially fund the move, though Bayern will still need to negotiate with Chelsea to bridge the price gap.

While RB Leipzig are reportedly open to a loan arrangement, both Nkunku and Chelsea are pushing for a permanent deal. Several other clubs have inquired about the 27-year-old, but Bayern remain his preferred destination. A transfer before the deadline is on the cards if the two clubs can agree on the terms.
