Chicago Sky vs Dallas Wings: Chicago Snaps Their Losing Skid on Courtney Vanderslootto’s Historic Night, Secures Season’s First Win

The Chicago Sky finally ended their four-game losing streak as they overcame the Dallas Wings 97-92 in the crucial home matchup on Thursday. It was Sky’s first win of the 2025 WNBA season. On the other side, the Wings suffered their fourth defeat out of five games. Both teams are now 1-4 in the regular season.

It was a close encounter between two out-of-form teams but Sky held the nerves in the final quarter to snatch a big victory. Angel Reese managed just six points but grabbed nine rebounds. Kamilla Cardoso scored a team-high 23 points and eight rebounds. Courtney Vandersloot and Rebecca Allen (off the bench) added 13 points apiece. Vandersloot also dished out nine assists.

Chicago Sky Spoils Arike Ogunbowale’s Career-Night to Clinch First Victory of the Season

Sky outscored the Wings 29-19 in the opening quarter but Dallas reduced the deficit to six points at halftime. Arike Ogunbowale’s driving hook helped Dallas to tie the game at 59 points in the third quarter. The Wings got their first lead through Paige Bueckers-Arike Ogunbowale playmaking with 3:24 left in the third.

During the third quarter, Courtney Vandersloot became Chicago Sky’s all-time scorer with 3724 points. However, Dallas outscored Chicago 30-19 in this period to take a crucial five-point lead.

Chicago came back with 11-4 run to regain the lead in the fourth. With 5:41 left in the game, the Wings took a 80-79 lead. The game was moving towards a classic finish. Courtney Vandersloot and Angel Reese’s two-point play helped Sky to take a three-point lead with 46 seconds left in the game.

Ariel Atkins made a pullup jump shot to stretch the lead to five points and Paige Bueckers missed a decisive three-pointer with 14 seconds left. Chicago Sky, who didn’t win a single quarter throughout the season, outscored the Wings in fourth quarter by 10 points. Before going up in the final quarter, they were outscored in previous eight second-quarter quarters out of nine.

Arike Ogubnowale had a staller night with 37 points, five boards and seven assists. Paige Bueckers dropped 15 points, eight assists and five boards. Dijonai Carrington also added 15 points and Myisha Hines-Allen had 10. Wings went 8-for-22 from 3-point range compared to Sky’s 10-of-24 shooting. Both teams will lock horns again on Saturday and Dallas will host the game.
