The Indiana Fever suffered an 83-77 loss to the Washington Mystics in their first game without their superstar Caitlin Clark. Notably, Clark has been sidelined for at least two weeks due to a left quadriceps injury during the loss to the New York Liberty. While Stephanie White’s team came up with due preparations and suitable replacements, the Mystics didn’t fail to capitalize on the former Iowa star’s absence and handed the Fever their third loss of the season.

The game that was moved to the CFG Arena saw the Fever dominating their rivals in the first quarter. DeWanna Bonner collected seven points and two rebounds off the bench, helping the Fever maintain a lead despite the Mystics leading 19-18 with one minute left in the quarter. The Fever maintained a slim edge over the Mystics for most of the second quarter. However, Shakira Austin’s 13 points gave the hosts a 44-40 lead as they headed into halftime.

By the third quarter, the Mystics had complete control over the game and they expanded their lead to six points with 60-53 by the end of the third quarter. Kelsey Mitchell had 12 points for the Fever while Aliyah Boston scored seven points and six rebounds. On the other hand, Brittney Sykes led the Mystics with 12 points, six rebounds, and four assists. By the end of the fourth quarter, the Mystics defeated the Fever and recorded an 83-77 win.

Sykes led the Mystics with 21 points, nine rebounds, and four assists while Kiki Iriafen dropped 16 points, eight rebounds, and one assist.

DeWanna Bonner Leads Fever And Creates WNBA History

For the Indiana Fever, DeWanna Bonner came up with 21 points, four rebounds, and one assist. While the Fever failed to get past the victory line, Bonner ended up scripting WNBA history. She became the first player ever to hit 7,500 points, 3,000 rebounds, and 1,000 assists in a career.

Bonner achieved the feat during the fourth quarter, and despite being on the losing side, her teammates and coaches applauded the veteran for a legendary achievement. The Wednesday-night game also marked her first 20-point game with the Fever, and she is also the oldest player in the league to score 20+ points off the bench.
