The four-time major champion is looking for his first Monte Carlo crown.
Carlos Alcaraz is set to face talented German Daniel Altmaier in a high stakes Monte Carlo Masters 2025 Round of 16 encounter on Thursday. Both players came through thrilling three set tussles in their Round-2 matches, setting up this blockbuster meeting in the process. The winner earns a spot in the quarterfinal – to face either Andrey Rublev or Arthur Fils.
After shrugging off some early tournament blues, Carlos Alcaraz overcame the Francisco Cerundolo challenge on Wednesday. The second seed dropped just one game in the final two sets en route to his fifth R16 appearance this year. Carlitos has won one title in 2025 – the ATP Rotterdam Open. With a 15-2 record over the past year on clay and 82% win ratio on serve, the four-time Grand Slam champion starts as the favourite on paper.

Meanwhile, Daniel Altmaier has won four matches at the Monte Carlo Masters 2025 already – including wins over experienced clay court campaigners such as Jaume Munar, 16th seed Felix Auger-Aliassime and the now retired Richard Gasquet. The 26-year-old has failed to make a noteworthy impact this year, leading to a ranking slump down to No. 84 in the world.
The head to head record between Carlos Alcaraz and Daniel Altmaier stands at 0-0 on the ATP Tour. This will be their first meeting on the senior tour-level circuit.

Although Alcaraz and Altmaier are yet to meet on the ATP Tour, they faced each other once on the ATP Challenger circuit. Alcaraz met Altmaier in the semifinal of the 2020 Cordenons Challenger – defeating him 6-1 7-6(6) to book a spot in the final. Unfortunately, the Spanish bull lost in three sets in the summit clash. Now, they will meet after five years.

Daniel Altmaier outplayed Richard Gasquet in an absolute thriller on Wednesday, and might feel a sense of fatigue. On the other hand, Alcaraz will want to make a statement after starting slow against his Argentine counterpart. Expect the reigning Roland Garros champion to come out all guns blazing when he takes on Altmaier.

Daniel Altmaier Win: 16/1
