Around a week ago, Carlos Alcaraz was left disheartened moments after winning one of the greatest Roland Garros finals of all-time. The reason was simple – despite capturing his fifth Grand Slam by beating World No. 1 Jannik Sinner in Paris, Alcaraz was upset at Spain losing the UEFA Nations League final to Portugal. The 22-year-old has been a Spanish football buff for years, and unabashedly supports Real Madrid.

The 2025 Roland Garros Grand Slam was the ideal example of ‘down but not out.’ In the fourth set, Sinner was on the verge of making history. With 3 championship points in his kitty, the Italian powerhouse faced the wrath of Alcaraz. As the Court Philipp-Chatrier fans sat with their minds blown, the No. 2 seed produced a comeback that will be remembered forever.

After ‘Carlitos’ retained his French Open crown, Real Madrid wished him, “All Madridistas are happy and proud of this brilliant success achieved by one of our own.” Like his idol Rafael Nadal, the Spaniard has grown up watching Los Blancos lift 15 Champions League trophies. And now, he has sent an encouraging message after their latest splash in the market.

Alcaraz: “I’m Going to Speak With Trent Alexander-Arnold in Spanish”

After a short break in Ibiza, Alcaraz has returned to action. The prodigious talent returns to action at the 2025 HSBC Championships at Queen’s Club in London. He won his first ever grass court title at this very event two years, before bowing out to Jack Draper in 2024. As a result, it presents Alcaraz an opportunity to gain valuable ranking points.

Ahead of his campaign on the lush vibrant greens, Carlos Alcaraz spoke in a media interaction about the newest signing of the men in white. “If I ever meet him [Trent Alexander-Arnold], I’m going to speak to him in Spanish,” said the reigning French Open and Wimbledon champ. Real Madrid reportedly signed Alexander-Arnold for around €10 million to release him from his contract.

“His Spanish is pretty, pretty good. It surprised me when I heard it. It’s not easy when you’re standing in front of a new club, new president, new teammates, new everyone – speaking another language. But being able to do it like this – respect to him. But he’s so serious [laughs]. It’s great having him at Real Madrid. I’m pretty sure he will be the best right-back in the world.”

The Wimbledon Championships begin on 30 June, up until 13 July. Meanwhile, the 2025-26 La Liga season will kick-off on the weekend of 17 August 2025.
