Carlos Alcaraz Caps Off Milestone Season By Breaching 10,000 Point Mark at US Open 2025

Spanish World No. 2 to face Novak Djokovic in the semifinals.

World No. 2 Carlos Alcaraz just can’t get rid of the winning feeling at the moment. The 22-year-old ticked off another straight sets victory on Tuesday, overcoming Jiri Lehecka 6-4 6-2 6-4 to advance into the US Open 2025 semifinals. He now awaits longstanding rival Novak Djokovic in the final four. After cruising to victory on Arthur Ashe Stadium, Alcaraz shattered a plethora of records in New York.

It was yet another seamless performance from the five-time Grand Slam champion, who is yet to drop a set across five matches thus far. In the process, Alcaraz stretched his winning streak to 11 matches since losing the Wimbledon final to World No. 1 Jannik Sinner. Speaking of the Italian and his top ranking, Alcaraz is hunting down the prize with fire in his eyes and ice in his veins. Striking the ball with utmost disdain and power, victory was a mere formality vs Lehecka.

Although the scoreline suggests a straightforward outing, there were several high intensity rallies between the players. However, Carlitos managed to take time away from the Czech star, and forced him into uncomfortable positions on court. After all, he was bound to learn from his defeat to the 23-year-old in Doha earlier this year. Alcaraz is set to feature in his first hard court major semifinal – since reaching the same stage at the 2023 US Open.

“I’m not,” confirmed Alcaraz when asked if he goes back and watches his own hot-shots. “But sometimes when I go to the living room, my little brothers are watching my highlights. So I just sit down and watch them… Every time I watch my shots again, it reminds me [during] matches.”

With the big win in the quarterfinals at Flushing Meadows, Alcaraz assured himself of crossing 10,000 points in the ATP Rankings. This is the first time he is managing to do so, and most probably not the last. Chasing the World No. 1 ranking this week, the Spanish bull will need to match or better the result of Sinner in order to dethrone the current king of men’s tennis.

Only Bjorn Borg, Rafael Nadal and Boris Becker (10 each) have reached more men’s singles Grand Slam semifinals than Carlos Alcaraz (9), before turning 23. The Spaniard is also the youngest ATP star since 1978 to reach major semifinals on all three surfaces across multiple seasons (2023 and 2025). If he can get past two more matches without dropping a set, he will become the first man in the Open Era to capture the US Open championship by winning 21/21 sets.
