US Open 2025 – Novak Djokovic Achieves Historic US Open Feat After Win Over Taylor Fritz

Can the Serb win a record-setting 25th Grand Slam?

Whoever said age is just a number must be smiling right now. That’s because Novak Djokovic has taken it upon himself to prove this statement to be true. The 38-year-old Djokovic has just defeated the world No. 4 Taylor Fritz to qualify for the semi-finals of the US Open. That statement by itself sounds ridiculous, but then there’s more to it. Through this victory, Djokovic has also achieved a historic milestone.

Novak Djokovic Adds Another Chapter to His Dominant Career

11-0. That’s the record of Novak Djokovic against Taylor Fritz after his 6-3, 7-5, 3-6, 6-4 win. But that’s not the only streak that Djokovic has kept alive in this match. The 24-time Grand Slam champion also tied Jimmy Connors’ legendary record by making it to his 14th US Open semi-finals. However, there’s an even more absurd record in the US Open.

Djokovic has never lost a US Open quarterfinal in his career. In a peculiar development, Djoker either gets eliminated before the quarterfinals or advances to the semifinals. It is telling of the monumental career of Djokovic that he has ended up making history in a tournament he hasn’t been extremely dominant in (Despite both being hard courts, Djokovic has won 10 Australian Opens and just 4 US Opens).

However, things weren’t easy for him in this match against Fritz. Though the scoreline shows that the 38-year-old dominated the entire proceedings. In reality, however, things could’ve gone wrong easily because Djokovic gave away 13 break-points in this match. Imagine what could’ve been had Fritz converted more of those chances (he managed to convert only 2). Certainly, a point to think about for Fritz as Djokovic continues to race past Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal in Grand Slam domination.

Djokovic Continues to Rewrite Tennis History

This is the 7th time Novak Djokovic has reached the semi-finals of all 4 Grand Slams in a year. Who has done it better than him? Noone. The Serb is the first one to do it seven times. However, there are more records that Djokovic has added to. For instance, this will be the 38-year-old’s 53rd Grand Slam semi-final. Again, the most in history. But what makes it special is the sheer distance between him, Federer, and Nadal.

Novak Djokovic has played a total of 80 Grand Slams till now and has been in the semi-finals of 66% of those events. For comparison, Roger Federer has played 81 Grand Slams and been in the semi-finals 46 times. That’s just over a 56% success rate. As for Nadal, in 68 Grand Slams, the Spaniard has played 38 semi-finals, again just over 56% success rate.

Imagine the sheer domination of Djokovic – he’s almost played as many Grand Slams as Federer and has over 10% more success rate than either Federer or Nadal. But then again, what else would you expect from the Greatest of All Time? Maybe a record-setting 25th Grand Slam? Well, for that he needs to go through Carlos Alcaraz in the semi-finals first.
