Bukayo Saka Injury Update: How Many Games Will the Arsenal Winger Miss?

Moumita Dutta

Arsenal have been dealt a significant early-season blow with star winger Bukayo Saka forced off during their 5-0 win against Leeds United at the Emirates Stadium. The 23-year-old was taken off shortly after halftime. Last season was an already injury-plagued one.

Hence, this brought on bad memories for fans. The question was on everyone’s mind whether it will be a potential long-term absence for Saka. The England winger has since undergone assessments. Initial reports suggest that the issue involves his left hamstring.

Early signs indicate that the injury is not as severe as the one that kept him sidelined for three-and-a-half months last season. It was after a surgery on his right hamstring. According to the BBC, Saka is expected to be out for around four weeks. This means he will still miss a few crucial fixtures for both club and country.

Which Games Will Bukayo Saka Miss?

These are the games Saka will miss –

  • Liverpool vs Arsenal
  • Arsenal vs Nottingham Forest
  • England vs Andorra (World Cup qualifiers)
  • Serbia vs England (World Cup qualifiers)
  • Depending on his recovery, Saka could also miss the Arsenal vs Manchester City match on September 21, Sunday.

The setback rules Saka out of Arsenal’s highly anticipated clash with Liverpool at Anfield on Sunday. He will also miss England’s World Cup qualifiers against Andorra and Serbia next month. This comes at a time when the Gunners are already missing other key players, including Kai Havertz who is suffering from a knee issue.

Adding to Mikel Arteta’s worries, captain Martin Odegaard also suffered an injury during their  Leeds game. The Norwegian midfielder landed awkwardly on his shoulder. He was also taken off in the first half. He left the Emirates in a sling. However, there is still optimism that his recovery will not require a lengthy spell on the sidelines.

Mikel Arteta Addresses the Situation

Speaking after the game, explaining the injuries, coach Arteta said, “Martin felt something in his shoulder when he landed. And Bukayo, while he was carrying the ball, wrestling with the defender, he felt something in his hamstring. Let’s see… it’s not the same one as the previous injury.” The manager also emphasized the importance of squad depth as injuries begin to pile up.

He said, “We’ve already lost Kai, Martin, and Bukayo, so it tells you how well-equipped you have to be in this league to maintain the level that we want.” Despite the blow, Arsenal are better prepared this season with attacking reinforcements like Viktor Gyökeres and Eberechi Eze. They also have players like Gabriel Martinelli, Leandro Trossard, and others available.
