Brighton Stun Champions Liverpool With Thrilling Comeback Win

Premier League champions Liverpool suffered another defeat as Brighton & Hove Albion came from behind twice to seal a thrilling 3-2 victory at the Amex Stadium, keeping their slim hopes of European football alive. In a pulsating contest, Jack Hinshelwood emerged as the late hero for Brighton, scoring the winner in the 85th minute.

The goal, initially ruled out for offside, was awarded after a VAR review confirmed he had timed his run perfectly to meet Matt O’Riley’s cross. The win lifts Brighton to eighth place in the table, three points clear of Brentford, while Liverpool extended their winless run since sealing the title to three games.

Liverpool Squander Lead Twice

Liverpool started brightly and took the lead in the 9th minute when Conor Bradley set up Harvey Elliott for a tidy finish. Brighton responded swiftly through Yasin Ayari, who calmly slotted home from the edge of the box after a slick team move.

The Reds reclaimed the lead before the break in bizarre fashion. Dominik Szoboszlai, combining with Elliott on a quick free-kick, floated a ball into the box that turned into an accidental lob over goalkeeper Bart Verbruggen to make it 2-1. Brighton came out stronger in the second half.

Kaoru Mitoma, introduced as a second-half substitute, made an immediate impact by firing in the equaliser with a superb finish. In the 85th minute, Brighton completed the turnaround when Hinshelwood scored what proved to be the decisive goal.

Captain Salah Misses Record-Equalling Moment

With Virgil van Dijk rested, Mohamed Salah captained Liverpool on his 400th club appearance. The Egyptian needed just one more goal or assist to match the Premier League-era record of 47 goal contributions in a single season, currently held by Alan Shearer and Andy Cole. But when the chance came to kill the game at 2-1, Salah shot wide from eight yards, a miss that ultimately proved pivotal.
