Brandon Miller Injury Update: Charlotte Hornets forward to miss entire season after wrist surgery

Charlotte Hornets faced a huge setback as their star forward Brandon Miller has been sidelined for the remainder of the NBA season. The 22-year-old has undergone surgery to repair a torn ligament in his right wrist. His team announced Thursday afternoon that Miller will opt for a season-ending wrist surgery.

Brandon Miller, who was the second overall pick in the 2023 NBA draft, sustained the injury during Charlotte’s 117–112 win against Utah last week. It could be a major blow for the Hornets, who have been dealing with injuries.

Hornets guard LaMelo Ball returned to the lineup recently after missing out for at least two weeks earlier this season with a calf injury. But, Brandon Miller’s injury will hurt Hornets’ roaster ahead of crucial NBA matchups.

Brandon Miller is Charlotte’s second-leading scorer and missed six games earlier this season due to an ankle injury. The second-year forward is averaging 21 points, 3.6 assists, 4.9 rebounds across 27 matchups this season.

“It’s one of those bittersweet things where you’re happy for the victory, but unfortunate news on Brandon,” Hornets coach Charles Lee added a statement after the win against Utah Jazz. “We’ll just kind of have to band together and help him through his rehab.”

Brandon Miller earned the All-Rookie First Team selection last season. The 22-year-old holds career averages of 18.3 points, 4.4 rebounds and 2.7 assists.

Brandon Miller underwent surgery to repair a torn scapholunate ligament in his right wrist. The surgery was performed by Dr. Michelle Carlson at the Hospital for Special Surgery in New York City. Miller will miss the remainder of the season and updates on his status will be provided as appropriate, the Hornets issues a press-release.

“That definitely hurts,” said Hornets guard LaMelo Ball. “I was in the same kind of situation, my rookie year, or sophomore, whatever. I know how he feel, we just always have his back, watch out for him. He with the whole squad. That’ll help a little.
