Boston Celtics Reportedly Listening to Offers for One of their Top Two Remaining Stars Outside of Tatum

The Celtics have already saved a projected $180 million in tax penalties by trading Holiday and Porzingis.

The Boston Celtics are listening to offers for their top two remaining stars outside of Jayson Tatum. The last year’s NBA champions are ready to accept for Jaylen Brown and Derrick White, reports ESPN’s Shams Charania. Boston Celtics are looking to reduce their luxury tax bill for next season.

Shams Charania was talking on SportsCenter with Scott Van Pelt. “It means that phone lines are ringing in Boston,” Charania said. “My understanding is that the Celtics are getting offers called on both Jaylen Brown and Derrick White.”

Celtics Want to Lower Its Luxury Tax Bill, Willing to Listen Offers for Brown and White

Boston Celtics are keen to reduce its luxury tax bill ahead of the new season. The 2024 NBA champions already made a trade of Kristaps Porzingis to Atlanta Hawks in three-team Trade. Boston traded Porzingis and a second-round pick to Atlanta, Terance Mann and the Hawks’ No. 22 pick to the Nets, and Georges Niang and a second-rounder to the Celtics.

“The Celtics have a high price threshold for both of these players. They know how great Jaylen Brown and Derrick White are, so I am sure they are getting some massive offers, some pretty big-time calls as well,” Charania said. “This is a team that is still in the first apron, still a luxury tax team, still dealing with the uncertainty of Jayson Tatum’s status next season.”

Jaylen Brown completed first season of 5-year extension worth $303.7 million. He earned $52.3 million this season and make $69.1 million in final of the year of the deal which will end in 2028-29. The Celtics have already saved a projected $180 million in tax penalties by trading Jrue Holiday to the Blazers and Kristaps Porzingis to the Hawks.

Jaylen Brown, who was drafted third overall in 2016, has been a key asset for the Celtics. The 28-year-old was the 2024 NBA Finals MVP award and got selected to All-Star four times during this period. He extended his contract worth over $285 million after helping Boston win its first championship since 2008.

On the other hand, Celtics acquired Derrick White in a trade with the San Antonio Spurs. The 31-year-old spent three-and-a-half seasons with the 2024 NBA Champions and entered the first season of a four-year, $118-million extension.
