Ben Shelton vs Lorenzo Sonego Head-to-Head, Prediction and Betting Odds for Wimbledon 2025 Round of 16

Devavrat Kulkarni

Ben Shelton will be aiming to make it three in a row against Sonego

The number 10 seed at this year’s Wimbledon, Ben Shelton, plays his round of 16 tie against Lorenzo Sonego. This will be the second match on the No. 1 Court today, with the winner moving on to the quarters to face either world number 1, Jannik Sinner, or Grigor Dimitrov.

The American 22-year-old has matched his best result at the Championships, and a win today will put him in the quarters for the first time. Shelton has powered through the tournament thus far with convincing straight-set victories over Alex Bolt, Rinky Hijikata, and Marton Fucsovics in his first, second, and third rounds respectively.

Shelton has served well throughout the tournament with 34 aces and just 10 double faults, winning 95% of his service games. But, he has been equally effective on return games, converting nearly 40% of his break point chances.

As for Sonego, grass is one of his better surfaces, but even then, his overall record stands at 23-20, while he is only 2-3 this year. It’s been more of a struggle for the Italian, especially in the past couple of rounds.

Sonego defeated Jaime Faria in straight sets in round one, but then came through in four and five-set matches against Nikoloz Basilashvili and Brandon Nakashima in the second and third rounds respectively.

Ben Shelton vs Lorenzo Sonego Wimbledon 2025 Prediction

Shelton will head into this match as the favorite. Although he has had his fair share of struggles, he seems to turn things around at the majors. Moreover, he has been playing really well on grass, and his big serve should give him the edge.

Sonego has also played good grass-court tennis up to this point, but countering Shelton’s serve may not be an easy task. And then there is the added pressure of consecutive defeats to the same player at this year’s previous 2 slams.

Match Prediction: Shelton wins in four sets
