Kevin De Bruyne announced his departure from Manchester City last week after a decorated career. Winning several trophies and leading from the front, the Belgian will leave a void at Etihad. Not only it’ll be a big test for Pep Guardiola to replace De Bruyne, he might as well have to fight for his potential targets.

Bayern Leverkusen star Florian Wirtz is one of the favourites to replace De Bruyne next season. However, after some strong links to Manchester City, Bayern Munich might’ve joined the pursuit of signing the midfielder.

Wirtz who has sparked under Xabi Alonso is one of the hottest prospects in the world football right now. Being wanted by some of the top clubs, Bayern’s potential offers come with the course.

Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich have advanced their talks to Wirtz’s Family as per famous Sky Sports reporter Florian Plettenberg. The journalist broke the news to social media as the Tweet said,

“There have been several meetings and discussions between FC Bayern and the #Wirtz family!”

“Bayern are ready to make a record-breaking signing already this summer. Despite Uli Hoeneß’s recent public comments. Hoeneß and Karl-Heinz Rummenigge are the driving forces in these talks and will play a key role in possible negotiations with Leverkusen.”

Manchester City who has had a below-par season are speculated to go player scouting this summer. With their attacking prowess lacking flair, the addition of someone like Wirtz could be a piece of the puzzle. However, playing for the greatest club in his country could be a tempting offer for the 21-year-old.

Guardiola and his men’s dicey seaoson continues with the Champions League qualifications still in doubt. Failing to qualify for the European levels could also play a huge role in Wirtz’s decisions.

Plettenberg also addressed Guardiola and his men remain Bayern Munich’s biggest competitors. Wirtz hasn’t signed an extension with Bayern Leverkusen as his contract runs till June 2027.
