‘The Day Is Here’ -Kevin De Bruyne Shares a Heartfelt Message Announcing His Departure From Manchester City

Kevin De Bruyne will leave Manchester City with the most assists provided for the club.

Kevin De Bruyne has shared a heartfelt message on social media announcing his departure from Manchester City. The Belgian, who has led the Citizens to numerous glory years, is set to depart at the end of the season.  

Sharing the heartfelt message must’ve come tough to the 33-year-old. Arriving as a record signing in 2015, Pep Guardiola and De Bruyne have reshaped the history of Manchester City in certain ways. Being one of the most important pillars of Manchester City over the past decade, De Bruyne will depart as one of the most decorated players in the club’s history. 

De Bruyne in his social media message chose to cut the heartfelt news straight away. Writing the words he must’ve feared for years, De Bruyne in his post stated:

“So I’ll get straight to it and let you all know that these will be my final months as a Manchester City player. Nothing about this is easy to write, but as football players, we all know this day eventually comes. That day is here— and you deserve to hear it from me first.”

De Bruyne who arrived as a 24-year-old boy in Manchester will be leaving as an accomplished man from the city. Having his children in Manchester, he addressed how the image of the city will always remain on his kids’ passports and his heart. Showing gratitude from him and his family, the six-time Premier League winner continued: 

“Whether we like it or not, it’s time to say goodbye. Suri, Rome, Mason, Michèle, and I are beyond grateful for what this place has meant to our family. Manchester will forever be on our kids’ passports— and more importantly, in each of our hearts. This will always be our HOME.”

De Bruyne’s tenure at Manchester City has been marked by remarkable individual achievements that place him prominently in the club’s historical rankings. He will leave Manchester City as their leading player for assists in the Premier League. He is also tied at 13th place for most appearances as he played in 411 games for Manchester City, as of April 2025. 

Following this announcement, several clubs from all over the world will come asking for the midfielder. With his contract expiring in June, the 33-year-old is expected to leave as a free agent. De Bruyne will be in for an emotional farewell at the Etihad Stadium.
