Barcelona vs Osasuna La Liga – Preview, Key Match Details, Injury News, Predicted Line-ups and More

Abhinav Goel

With an eighth straight league win in sight, the Catalans can open up a crucial three-point cushion over Real Madrid.

League leaders Barcelona host Osasuna at the Montjuic Olympic Stadium on Thursday. The La Liga clash had been originally postponed due to the tragic passing of Barcelona’s first-team doctor Carles Miñarro García three weeks ago.

Barcelona are currently riding an impressive 18-game unbeaten streak across all competitions, a run that began with their win over Atletico Madrid in December. That run has taken them to the top of LaLiga, the Champions League quarter-finals and the semis of the Copa del Rey. Thursday’s clash with Osasuna, Barca’s game in hand, presents a golden opportunity to take full control of the La Liga title race.

With an eighth straight league win in sight, the Catalans can open up a crucial three-point cushion over Real Madrid. History also favours Barcelona as they have dominated Osasuna at home in recent seasons, winning each of the last four La Liga home matches by a combined score of 10-0. Their most recent encounter in January 2024 ended in a narrow 1-0 victory, and Hansi Flick’s men will be aiming for another dominant performance.

Meanwhile, Osasuna are on a six-game winless run in all competitions. Osasuna haven’t managed an away win over Barcelona since July 2020. However, they managed to defeat Barcelona 4-2 in the reverse fixture earlier this season. That match saw Osasuna’s top scorer Ante Budimir net a brace, with Bryan Zaragoza and Abel Bretones also getting on the scoresheet. Budimir has 15 goals in 27 games this season and the Croatian striker will look to add to his tally here.

Barcelona Injury News

Barcelona will be missing two key players as Raphinha and Ronald Araujo will unavailable for the Osasuna clash because of the short turnaround following the international break. In Raphinha’s absence, all eyes will be on Lewandowski, who is Barcelona’s top scorer this season. The Polish striker has 22 goals in 27 games.

Barcelona will also be without Marc-Andre ter Stegen and Marc Bernal as both of them are sidelined due to long-term injuries. Youngster Marc Casado will miss the remainder of the season after picking up a serious knee injury during the 4-2 win over Atletico Madrid just before the international break.

Meanwhile, Pau Cubarsi sustained an ankle injury during Spain’s UEFA Nations League quarter-final first leg against the Netherlands. His availability for Thursday’s clash remains uncertain. On a positive note, experienced centre-back Inigo Martinez has returned to full training and is expected to be in contention for selection after overcoming the knee issue that ruled him out of international duty.

Osasuna Injury News

Midfielder Lucas Torro is suspended for the trip to Barcelona after he received his 10th yellow card of the season during the Getafe game. Osasuna could also be without winger Bryan Zaragoza, currently on loan from Bayern Munich. Zaragoza was forced off late in the match against Getafe due to injury. His availability for Thursday’s fixture remains uncertain and he will likely be assessed closer to kick-off.

Defender Enzo Boyomo returned from international duty with Cameroon on Wednesday. With such a quick turnaround, it’s unlikely that the centre-back will be fit enough to feature in the starting lineup.

Barcelona probable starting lineup:
Szczesny; Kounde, Garcia, Martinez, Balde; Pedri, De Jong; Yamal, Olmo, Fermin; Lewandowski

Osasuna probable starting lineup:
Herrera; Areso, Catena, Herrando, Cruz; Moncayola, Ibanez, Oroz; Ru. Garcia, Gomez, Budimir
