It's down to the final-four in Madrid
We are now well and truly in the business end of the 2025 Madrid Open with just four players left to battle it out for a spot in the final. The final four who are left standing are Jack Draper, Lorenzo Musetti, Casper Ruud, and Francisco Cerundolo, with Draper the top seed left in the draw.
It has been an exciting week of tennis so far in the Spanish Capital and the semifinals today promise to continue with the trend. So, without further ado, let’s get down to the matches on hand and their timings.
Francisco Cerundolo (20) vs Casper Ruud (14)
The Semifinal day will start off with the 20th-seeded Argentine Francisco Cerundolo taking on the 14th-seeded Norwegian, Casper Ruud. This should be an exciting affair as both players are known for their clay-court game.
Casper Ruud beats former #1 Daniil Medvedev for the 1st time, 6-3, 7-5 and reach the SFs in Madrid. Yet to drop a set.

Cerundolo has played quite well leading up to this match, especially in the round of 16, where he dispatched the number one-seeded Alexander Zverev, who himself was in fine form. The Argentine is coming off a tough win over Jakub Mensik in the previous round. On the other hand, Ruud has gotten past the likes of Taylor Fritz and Daniil Medvedev.

Draper has developed quite an all-around game and despite being from the UK, he has done well on clay courts also. Both players are yet to drop a set on their way to the semis, but Musetti has some incredible wins over the likes of Alex de Minaur and Stefanos Tsitsipas on the way.

After starting my professional career as a French-to-English translator, working as a content writer is a new adventure for me. I started out in the sports media field for two main reasons: my love for sports in general, especially the NFL, NBA, and Tennis, as well as my passion for writing. The best part of this job is that I get to write a variety of pieces with the freedom to explore content from various angles. It also enables me to stay up to date with the sporting world, which otherwise can be difficult to do in the day-to-day grind. In a world full of chaos, sports unite and entertain like nothing else!
