Atlético Madrid Close In on Renato Veiga After Improved Offer

Atlético Madrid are on the verge of completing a deal for Chelsea defender Renato Veiga after submitting a second bid, according to Marca. The Portuguese international is edging closer to a move to the Civitas Metropolitano as Chelsea prepare to part ways with the 20-year-old.

Veiga joined the Blues from Basel last summer for €14 million and quickly made an impression in cup competitions and European fixtures. Despite his promise, the defender left on loan to Juventus in January in search of regular minutes at centre-back — a position he was unable to nail down in Mauricio Pochettino’s plans.

Renato Set for Permanent Exit Despite Strong Loan Spell

While Veiga played a central role at Juventus during the second half of last season, he remains surplus to requirements at Stamford Bridge. His wages — reportedly around £25,000 per week — and his desire for consistent first-team football have paved the way for a permanent departure.
