Aston Villa Complete Deadline Day Double Swoop for Jadon Sancho and Harvey Elliott

Aston Villa have strengthened their squad with two high-profile deadline-day arrivals. They have signed Manchester United forward Jadon Sancho and Liverpool midfielder Harvey Elliott on loan. Notably, Unai Emery’s side were in need of reinforcements after a tough start to the season. Villa secured late deals for both the players to bolster their attack and midfield.

Sancho joins on a third consecutive loan spell following stints at Borussia Dortmund and Chelsea. Villa will cover around 80% of his wages, which exceed £200,000 per week. Manchester United expect the overall loan package to fully offset his salary. The winger had turned down a move to Roma earlier in the window despite interest from Serie A clubs, including Juventus.

Sancho was signed by United from Borussia Dortmund for £73m in 2021. However, he has not played for the Red Devils since the Community Shield in August 2024 and looks set to revive his career in Birmingham.

Liverpool Insert Two Clauses in Harvey Elliott’s Loan Move

Meanwhile, 22-year-old Harvey Elliott arrives from Liverpool on loan with an obligation to buy next summer for £35m. Notably, Elliott was named player of the tournament at the European Under-21 Championship. Liverpool ensured they maintained control over Harvey Elliott’s long-term future by inserting both a buy-back clause and a sell-on clause into the agreement with Aston Villa.

The buy-back option means the Reds can bring the midfielder back to Anfield for a set fee below market value. Meanwhile, the sell-on clause guarantees Liverpool a share of any future transfer fee should Villa eventually decide to sell him elsewhere.

Villa beat off competition from RB Leipzig for Elliott’s signature, while West Ham and Fulham also showed interest. The double deal caps off a busy end to the window for Villa, who also confirmed the signing of former Manchester United defender Victor Lindelof on a free transfer.

Despite earlier departures of loanees Marcus Rashford and Marco Asensio, along with Leon Bailey’s exit, Emery now has fresh options as Villa aim to end their poor run of form. Remarkably, they remain the only Premier League side yet to score a goal this season, but the additions of Sancho and Elliott will inject much-needed creativity and firepower in Villa’s attack.
