World No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka will be ready to take on Russian ace, Anastasia Potapov in the second round of the Porsche Tennis Grand Pix 2025 on Wednesday. Following a 1-2 combined record at the season’s first WTA 1000 tournaments, Sabalenka played two consecutive finals. She lost to Mirra Andreeva in the summit clash at the Indian Wells. However, she showed great resilience in the Miami Open and defeated Jessica Pegula in straight sets to claim her eighth WTA 1000 title.

While Sabalenka got a first-round bye, Potapova got better of Calara Tauson in the first-round at Stuttgart 2025. The Russian lost the first set and saved a match point in tie-break to win the second. She made her task easy in the third set to wrap up the game 2-6, 7-6 (8), 6-3. Potapova has improved her record for the season to 13-6.

Although the Potapova match-up will be very different, Sabalenka beat her in the same tournament two years ago in straight sets. The Russian won the Transylvania Open this year as the top seed and claimed her third WTA Tour singles title. Sabalenka has reached four finals across six tournaments this year and it would be an easy matchup for the three-time major champion.
