Arsenal after a disappointing end to the 2024/25 campaign have started their efforts to strengthen their squad. Mikel Arteta and his scouts are reportedly aiming to secure Martin Zubimendi from Real Sociedad as their first signing of the summer.

The Spanish midfielder who played a crucial role in Spain’s Euro 2024 is said to be highly liked in the Arsenal dugout. Moreover, with the Spanish connection Arteta will bring, Zubimendi could be expected to settle in quickly among the North London stands.

Zubimendi to Arsenal: Midfielder Nears Move with Medical Scheduled

Zubimendi is among the top scouted players by Arsenal and some other Premier League clubs as well. The 26-year-old made his senior debut for Real Sociedad in 2020 and has been at the heart of their midfield since.

According to the latest reports from BBC, Zubimendi will travel to London for his medical soon as Arsenal has secured the signing of the Spanish midfielder for around £50 million. This will be the first player signed by Arteta this summer as the official announcements by both parties are yet to be made.

Former Arsenal player Stan Collymore also suggested that Zubimendi is seeking assurances before finalising the Arsenal deal. Arteta seems to have convinced the Spaniard as the latest reports of him heading to London soon have surfaced.

Fans have had a mixed reaction to the transfer news as some call it ‘yet another defensive midfield signing’ for Arsenal. However, given the injury problems faced in the 2024/25 campaign, Arteta might look at this move as the one to distribute the workload when the season gets intense.

Zubimendi started in 33 La Liga games for Real Sociedad in the 2024/25 season. Proving his fitness levels and the ability to defend from the centre, Zubimendi could turn out as a good fit for Arsenal given their playing style matches his attributes.
