Denver Broncos seem impressed with Arizona State RB Cam Skattebo!

Within just two years at the helm of the Denver Broncos, head coach Sean Payton has managed to raise expectations. Following a run of seven straight seasons with a losing record, Payton and the Broncos were able to make it back to the playoffs since their last appearance in Super Bowl 50. Denver is rebuilding and they seem to have found their most important piece in quarterback Bo Nix from the 2024 draft.

At the recently concluded NFL Combine, the Broncos’ message was a clear one. They are looking at the running back and tight end markets with the aim of improving their offense in the middle of the field. More specifically, they are looking for a running back with better pass-catching ability, which will help in the 3rd down and red zone situations.

As per sources, Denver paid a great deal of importance in the running back position, meeting with 10 running backs at the Combine from their allotted 45 formal meetings stipulated by the league. And, it seems that former Arizona State RB Cam Skattebo has caught their eye as he confirmed having had a meeting with the franchise during the Combine.

Cam Skattebo’s Combine performance

Skattebo entered the Combine on the back of a dominant 2024 season with the Sun Devils. Even though he did not participate in the 40-yard dash, Skattebo still put up impressive numbers in some of the other drills at the Combine. His vertical was measured at 39.5” which was tied for second amongst running backs and his broad jump measured 10’3”, which put him in joint-sixth place amongst all backs.

During his media interview at the Combine, Skattebo expressed confidence in his ability to continue doing what he does till it doesn’t work and then to figure out how to improve. He also mentioned that he doesn’t seem as fast to others, but in reality he is quite fast, and likes to tire down defenders while focusing on his main goal, which is to find the endzone.

The former Sun Devil is a physically hard runner who also excels in pass catching from the backfield. His ability to maintain balance after contact, and break tackles for extra yards is one of his best qualities. He is an excellent reader of blocks as a result of which he can break free quickly. Skattebo relies on his physical nature and quick speed, helped by his low and muscular frame. What makes him more special is the effort and energy he brings to his game, thriving on a motor that doesn’t quit through all 4 quarters of the game.
