Ange Postecoglou Nearing Tottenham Hotspur Exit – Who Could Replace the Spurs Boss?

As Spurs Stumble Through a Dismal Season, Managerial Changes Loom Large.

Ange Postecoglou is expected to leave Tottenham Hotspur at the end of the current season. As per recent reports, this will come true regardless of their fate in the Europa League. The decision seems imminent after their recent 2-1 defeat to Nottingham Forest on Monday.

This was their 18th Premier League defeat of the season and it has left them languishing in 16th place. As per a report from The Telegraph, even winning the Europa League will not be enough to keep the Australian in the job. Tottenham will be facinf Norwegian champions Bodo/Glimt in the UEL semi-finals.

If they manage to qualify for the final, they will have a potential final against either Manchester United or Athletic Club on the horizon. A Europa League triumph would end the club’s 17-year wait for silverware. It will also maintain Postecoglou’s record of winning trophies in his second season at clubs.

However, growing instability off the pitch has further fueled speculation. The departure of chief football officer Scott Munn, a key ally of Postecoglou, and the appointment of former Arsenal executive Vinai Venkatesham have only intensified doubts over the coach’s future at the club.

Potential Successors Emerging

Reportedly, Spurs have already looking for new candidates for the position. Crystal Palace manager Oliver Glasner has emerged as the leading contender to take the reins. His strong showing at Selhurst Park has impressed Spurs officials.

Former Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino is also in the conversation. However, his current role as USA head coach and preparations for the 2026 World Cup may keep him away. Brentford’s Thomas Frank and Fulham’s Marco Silva are also high on the shortlist.

Meanwhile, Bournemouth’s Andoni Iraola is admired by Tottenham’s hierarchy. However, the Cherries remain optimistic about retaining the Spaniard. Spurs’ technical director Johan Lange is said to be particularly keen on Frank.

Postecoglou on Uncertain Ground

So far, Postecoglou has remained candid but calm about his future. After their last Europa League win against Eintracht Frankfurt, Flick said:

“You either think I’m capable of doing the job now or you don’t. I couldn’t care less. Really. I couldn’t care less… There’s no burden on me, there’s no anxiety on me.”

Tottenham’s season continues with a daunting trip to Anfield to face Liverpool coming up next. That thriller will be followed by their Europa League semi-final first leg against Bodo/Glimt on May 1. Whether Postecoglou lifts a trophy or not, change appears inevitable in the North London club.
