Alexander Zverev shouldn't take this game lightly as Giron has the ability to trouble the higher-ranked players.
The world No. 3 Alexander Zverev will kick off his Wimbledon preparation with the ATP Terra Wortmann Open and his first assignment is against Marcos Giron in the opening round. Zverev recently came through another heartbreaking loss in the final of Boss Open. The Russian ace would look to move on from the loss and push for the Wimbledon preparation.
Alexander Zverev is a top-class player but is not delivering on the higher stage of the competitions. He lost to Novak Djokovic in the Roland Garros quarterfinals and later, suffered a loss in Stuttgart final against Taylor Fritz on tie-break. It was his fifth consecutive defeat against Fritz. Zverev, the runner up of the 2025 Australian Open, would look to gain confidence ahead of the Wimbledon. The Russian was the finalist in Halle twice in 2016 and 2017. He reached semifinals in last two edition of the ATP Terra Wortmann Open but this year, he wants to tale the glory home. Zverev is yet to win a grass-court title despite coming closer on various occasions.

Marcos Giron had a roller-coaster ride in 2025 with a 14-13 record. The American ace had a quarterfinal run in Adelaide and Acapulco, and reached the round of 16 at Indian Wells. He secured two top-20 victories this year as he overcame Casper Ruud (Indian Wells) and Taylor Fritz (Rome). Giron has made into the quarterfinals in Halle twice in 2021 and 2024. It will be his first grass-court matchup of the season but he has the pace to counter Zverev’s experience.

Alexander Zverev shouldn’t take this game lightly as Giron has the ability to trouble the higher-ranked players. In baseline exhange, the Russian ace takes edge through flat backhand. Giron can push for the longer rally and push the fatigue where he can counter the world No. 3. Zverev would rely on his serve and his experience will help him to cross the line.
Prediction: Zverev to win in straight sets.
The betting odds in this match are highly in favor of Zverev, but even as the odds suggest, this match could go either way, especially since both of them have done well in Halle. The Russian ace is the favorite against Giron in this match, with -699 odds against the underdog’s +450 in the Round 1.
