The German and the Argentine will face-off for the first time
In a second-round clash at the 2025 Italian Open, German number 2 seed Alexander Zverev will take on Argentina’s Camilo Ugo Carabelli. The Argentine lacks experience at this level, while Zverev is a seasoned pro looking to go deep in this tournament in preparation for the upcoming French Open at the end of the month.
The German, who made it to the final at the Australian Open this year, fell off his game until the BMW Open in Munich, where he went on to win his first title of the year. Most recently, though, the number 2 seed is coming off a round of 16 loss to Francisco Cerundolo at the Madrid Open, which was a bit of a setback.
Carabelli is still finding his way at this level, but he did make a run to the semifinals at the Rio Open and the Chile Open earlier this year. One of his better results this year came in Miami, where he came through qualifier rounds and made it to the round of 32, where he lost to Novak Djokovic. He will now face the number 2 seed following a 3-set win over Pablo Carreno Busta in the first round.
Alexander Zverev and Camilo Ugo Carabelli have never played against each other. Their match at the Italian Open will be their first career meeting.

Zverev is ranked number 2 in the world, and it is also his highest career ranking thus far. The German has won many titles, including being a two-time winner at the Tour Finals, along with an Olympic gold medal in singles. Although he is still waiting for his maiden Slam, Zverev has made it to the finals of each Slam apart from Wimbledon.
On the other hand, the Argentine has not had any success at the highest level of the sport. He does, however, have 8 titles on the Challenger circuit.
| Alexander Zverev | Category | Camilo Ugo Carabelli |
| 2 | Ranking | 60 |
| 484-206 | Career W-L | 13-17 |
| 21-8 | YTD W-L | 9-8 |
| 24 | Career Titles | 0 |
| 0 | Grand Slams | 0 |
| 1 | YTD Titles | 0 |
Carabelli’s game seems to favor the clay courts more than any other surface. He has a better record on clay as well, however, he will be going up against one of the best tennis players of the generation, so it will be a tall order for the Argentine.

nfl I am a content writer for the NFL team, and joined The Playoffs after working with Sportskeeda and NFL Analysis as an NFL writer. After starting my professional career as a French-to-English translator, working as a content writer is a new adventure for me. I started out in the sports media field for two main reasons: my love for sports in general, especially the NFL, NBA, and Tennis, as well as my passion for writing. The best part of this job is that I get to write a variety of pieces with the freedom to explore content from various angles. It also enables me to stay up to date with the sporting world, which otherwise can be difficult to do in the day-to-day grind. In a world full of chaos, sports unite and entertain like nothing else!
