Alexander Volkanovski Admits His Time as a UFC Fighter Could Be Coming to an End Soon

Eric Divakaran

Alexander Volkanovski is widely regarded as one of the more exceptional fighters in the UFC featherweight division. He’s got a well-rounded skillset that makes him a tough matchup for anyone he faces. Volk has crisp striking and is highly technical with a knack for controlling distance and picking opponents apart. He’s fought some of the greatest fighters in the lightweight division and is one of the few fighters to have defeated Max Holloway three times and to have never lost a fight against him.

Volk has done it all. He’s been a champion, defended his title multiple times, fought some of the biggest names in the UFC, and has cemented his legacy. Despite his greatness, Volk has lost 3 out of his last 4 fights (two against Makhachev and one against Topuria) and is already 36 years old, soon to be 37. With father time fast approaching, Volk recently shed some light about his retirement plans and when he wants to call it quits. Let’s find out more.

Alexander Volkanovski Admits His Time in MMA Is Limited!

Volkanovski talked about his retirement plans in the Ariel Helwani show and said,

“I want to have one last crack, and get really stuck into it.” He continued “Win that belt, defend it, maybe defend it again, or one big fight after a defense, we’ll see. Then, maybe I’m done. That’s where we’re at.”

Volkanovski has been fighting in the UFC since November of 2016 and took on Yusuke Kasuya for his UFC debut. He started his MMA career on May 2012. Volk has won 26 fights and only has 4 losses in his MMA career so far.

Who will Volkanovki fight next?

Volkanovski will be fighting Diego Lopes for the featherweight belt at UFC 314. This comes after former UFC champ, Ilia Topuria, vacated the featherweight title and the division to move up to the lightweight to challenge Islam Makhachev for the belt.

In Volkanovski’s last UFC fight, he was knocked by Ilia Topuria at UFC 298 which was a year ago.

I cover the National Football League and things cannot get better than that. I always dreamed to play football or basketball professionally since I’m built like a Running Back. But now that I can’t, since I’m technically in the “Unc” age, I thought why not pick a career in sports industry? So here I am, doing what I love, and hoping that the Commanders win the Super Bowl. I give love to players when it’s due, but can be critical about their performances at the same time. Enough about me, now let my articles do all the talking.
