Alex Pereira’s Boxing Debut? Poatan Reveal The Phenomenal Boxing Champion He Would Like To Face In A Boxing Match!

Alex Pereira is at the peak of his UFC career right now. He is the current light heavyweight champion of the UFC and is 12-2-0 in terms of his record. Poatan (his nickname) is one of the nine fighters in UFC history to be a champ in multiple weight divisions. He first beat Israel Adesanya for the Middleweight title, which he won via TKO in the fifth round of UFC 281. However, when he had to face Adesanya again, Pereira was knocked out in round two of UFC 287.

After almost two years of fighting in the middleweight division, Pereira decided to move up a class and join the light heavyweight division in 2023. He faced Jan Błachowicz and won the fight via split decision. Due to Jamahal Hill rupturing his achilles tendon, the light heavyweight title was vacant at the time. So Pereira made quick work of, Jiří Procházka, winning via TKO in the second round. His win made him the light heavyweight champion of UFC, something only 8 fighters had achieved at that time.

Even though Jamahal Hill came back to challenge Pereira for the belt, he was unsuccessful and was knocked out in the very first round. Since then, Pereira has fought Jiří Procházka and Khalil Rountree Jr. With three fights within a year, Poatan set the UFC record for most titles defenses in a year which was held by Ronda Rousey before.

It seems like Alex Pereira is literally everywhere. Pereira recently said that he wants to fight Jon Jones at heavyweight category. Now, he has focused his energy elsewhere. Pereira has now declared that he wants to fight a professional boxer. Let’s find out who.

Alex Pereira Wishes To Fight Oleksandr Usyk!

Alex Pereira recently appeared on the Jaxxon Podcast and told the podcast members that he’s interested in taking on Oleksandr Usyk. Usyk is a professional boxer who is currently an undisputed heavyweight champion. Pereira may slightly be influenced by Conor McGregor who also fought an undisputed former boxer, Floyd Mayweather.

Pereira said “That’s something I really want. I’m under contract with the UFC. We Know (Conor) McGregor did it. I don’t know how I would, but someday I would really like to do it.”

Poatan Confident In His Boxing Skills

In the Jaxxon podcast, Pereira mentioned why he wants to fight Usyk stating “I’m the champ, I’d like to fight a champ. Oleksandr Usyk is the fight I want.” Pereira also feels very confident in his boxing skill and said “I feel that I could do really good. Boxing is one of my strongest skills.”

Pereira is very confident in his boxing skills most likely because he is experienced in boxing. Prior to the UFC, Pereira was also an amateur boxer in Brazil and had 25 wins and only 3 losses. It is reported that Pereira won all 25 of his bouts via knockouts! He has a versatile skillset and has an excellent background in multiple fighting styles like Kickboxing, and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.

Does Pereira Stand A Chance Against The Mighty Oleksandr Usyk?

Oleksandr Usyk is currently the undisputed champ for a reason. He dominated the second fight that he fought against Tyson Fury and was also relentless in the cruiserweight division. His record stands at 23-0 and is boxing world’s first heavyweight undisputed champion in 25 years. He’s taken out 14 opponents via knockout alone.

Meanwhile Pereira is also a very good boxer as we can see in UFC. He has taken out multiple opponents in the UFC so far and had 25 knockouts as an amateur boxer. So, who may win?

The only sample we’ve seen before, of a UFC fighter taking on a Pro Boxer, is Conor McGregor vs Floyd Mayweather. In that fight, Mayweather pretty much outclassed McGregor and we could expect a similar result if this fight takes place. Usyk is undefeated so far which may give a slight edge towards him. However, one can never predict what may happen in a fight. As huge upsets do happen occasionally, a fight between ‘The Cat’ and ‘Poatan’ would be a spectacle nonetheless!
